I home school my S and in the past, all of our information from the National Merit Corp. in IL has come directly to our home. The Semi-finalist packet came to our house at the same time it arrived at the high schools. We have been treated as an individual school up until now. We are 200 miles from Evanston and the weather has been normal between here and there. I am going to wait until Thursday maybe and then give them a call.

Passthepotatoes, thank you! : ) I have a VERY smart Yorkie- coincidentally, his name is Einstein. LOL!! JK!

In all seriousness, I think the NMC is just going to send the letter and certificate to the homeschoolers in one mailing. They will save a little money I guess.

Congrats to all! Hondu…double congrats to your son for both honors!!! Where will he be going in the fall?

Hmmmm…Yorkiemom, have you considered calling NMCorp and asking how they are contacting homeschoolers for finalist selection? The people who answer the phone are super nice. 847-866-5100

Regarding college change: If I choose to attend a different college than the one I put on my semifinalist application, when is the deadline to change? Neither of them are on the college-sponsored list. Will it affect my opportunity to get the scholarship (full ride from the university) if i don’t make an official change?

Are you saying that none of your schools offers a NM scholarship, but one of your schools is offering you a “non-NMF-related” full-ride scholarship?

If so, it doesn’t matter. The school that’s offering your non-NMF-related scholarship doesn’t care what you’ve chosen to be your #1 NM school. Your scholarship school won’t have any idea what you’ve put.

However, if the full-ride scholarship offer is a NM scholarship, then you need to submit a change. The form is on the NMCorp website. You can fax the school change to them.

But, maybe I’m not understanding the question. :)

The school’s website says that national merit finalists receive full tuition. The school is not on the NMS college sponsor list that was in the semifinalist packet. I wanted to know if I have to submit a change form to NMS so they can inform the college that they were my first choice.

I asked my Principal about the NMF today because the GC hadn’t heard about anything yet. He said he did receive the letter on Friday, but he didn’t have any certificates in the mailing, but my daughter was on the list. (There are two from our school.) Maybe the certificates will come in a different mailing?

No firm decision yet. He does not want to go anywhere that gets cold or snow. So the University of Central Florida in Orlando may get the edge. At UCF, being a NMF will get him an automatic admittance to the Honors Program.

An0maly: did you receive your certificate in the mail or from your school? My Principal said it was weird that certificates were not in the mailing, but who knows if they were overlooked, but he did say the letter had the kids on the list of finalists. I can’t wait until my daughter gets her letter from NM.

@ proud_mom: I received my certificate from the school, and a friend of mine from another school did as well. Hope your daughter gets her’s soon!

We are still axiously awaiting here in PA. My S school is in Delaware and he did not have school yesterday or today and with the new snow storm coming he won’t be having school
tomorrow. Hoping we find out Thursday!!! Congrats to all the NMF who have already heard.
