STILL waiting in RI…

^ Mail isn’t delivered on Sundays, and it isn’t delivered to homes until Feb 9th, so no sense in waiting today :p

Daughter is likely to be a semi-finalist based on recent PSAT score. Any tips on how to progress to becoming a finalist?

aaaggghhh I can’t wait!!! I haven’t gotten a rejection so things are looking good. I just want the paper to prove it. :DDD

*Daughter is likely to be a semi-finalist based on recent PSAT score. Any tips on how to progress to becoming a finalist? *

It’s pretty easy…15,000 out of 16,000 make finalist.

1) follow the directions on the semi-finalist packet & meet deadlines

2) don’t be a discipline problem at school

3) have a good GPA and good grades

4) write a respectful essay

5) Take the SAT between now and Dec and score a safe 2000+

6) Send SAT score to NM Corporation

7) make sure the GC at school sends the info to NMCorp on time.

Got ours in Texas this morning!

Just got my certificate today! :D

I still haven’t heard anything about whether I’ve made it to finalist or not. Were rejection letters for the semifinalists not making finalists definitely sent out earlier in January?

i’m hoping for mine on wednesday or thursday

D was told by the guidance department this morning that she is a Finalist! Yay!

Hello21: yes, letters letting the rejected candidates were sent out in January (9th or 10th I believe.) So if you haven’t gotten one yet, it is highly likely that you’ll be named a Finalist. Of course, in my mind, I was worried that maybe my D’s rejection letter had been lost & I couldn’t relax until I knew for sure. BTW, the letters mailed out last week were to principals; some HS administrations are better about letting kids know than others (especially with the crazy weather & school closures across the country.) The letters directly to the National Merit Finalists are supposed to be mailed tomorrow, so you should know by the end of the week either way.

Just to add to RobD’s note.

The rejection letters went out around Jan 5th, because students began receiving them in the mail on Jan 7th. I think that on CC, the last reported rejection letter was rec’d on Jan 11th or 12th.

So, anyone who didn’t receive a rejection letter last month has very much likely make it (unless some bizarre thing happened to your mail.)

Snowed in in the DC area, so no mail. But no rejection letter last month, so I feel pretty secure.

Still waiting for finalist notification for S in Iowa. He is home schooled… so I thought that we would receive the Feb. 2 letters to principals since that’s the way it worked for the semi-finalist information. BUT I suppose for this they will just send one letter to us as parents/student. We hope that we will get the letter (mailed today) by the end of the week! Maybe no certificate though. : (

Any other home schoolers out there who have received notification?

Like others on CC, I want to see the letter to really know!

Congrats to all. Were any of the above updates for mail received at home?

Finally found out today at school! Yay!!! To coloradomom: no, i think everyone so far has found out from either their principal or guidance counselor, but from what I understand, letters should be arriving at homes this week.

Contrats to all and good luck to those still waiting!!

Yorkie mom…

Have you called the school and asked about your son’s notification?

BTW…I adore yorkies. I have a “chorkie” (half yorkie/half chihuahua), but when I get another dog, it’s going to be a little yorkie! :)

Couldn’t wait any longer so I called the principal who told me that the mail from last Friday and Saturday had not been opened yet. Minutes later, she contacted me with the wonderful news that my son is a finalist. A few hours later, I checked the school’s website and there is a photo of my DS and the title of the announcement reads:

“National Merit and National Achievement Finalist”

My DS is the only one from his high school.

This is what we’ve been waiting on for him to make the final selection on the college he will be attending in August.

Congrats to all Finalists!

STILL waiting in NC. Called the school:utter chaos–weather closed school last week, more ice forecast for tonight, exam make-ups today, needing to finalize spring trip details. Gonna just grit our teeth and wait for the home mail.

“Any other home schoolers out there who have received notification?”

Another homeschooler waiting with you Yorkiemom…I’m guessing we’ll hear something this week…or we’ll lose our minds!

ETA: I’m really impressed your Yorkie is a NMsemifinalist. Wow!

Finally!! I called the school and they have her letter.
