National Merit Semi-finalist!!

2006 cutoffs won't be determined until the Oct 2005 PSAT is taken and graded.

When people ask for "2006 cutoffs", they mean for 2006 HS grads,
i.e. this year's seniors who took PSAT in 10/04.

These cutoffs were all determined by summer/05, however, NMS won't disclose the info until mid Sept.
If HS has started for some areas and if such schools notify their seniors now, then state-specific cutoffs start to be known!

Has anyone heard about NM in Arizona?

Yay - daughter got her semifinalist package from her counselor today!

I scored a 215 in Ohio, and I just got notified that I'm a Semifinalist.

Has anyone heard in NJ?

Someone said it was 222 in NJ

so what's it take NOT to make finalist from semifinalist?

if you prove, in some way, that your high PSAT score was a fluke. Seeing as how 15/16 people get finalist, its pretty hard to do.

And I feel really bad for those who don't make finalist...

Those who don't send in the paperwork, essay, transcript, SAT scores, etc. on time don't make it. Don't feel too sorry.

does anyone know the PA cutoff...?

Yeah I definitely freaked out about being called to the principal's office, but it was for the good news so yay. 224 in Illinois.

Question: how high do my SAT scores need to be to "prove" my PSAT wasn't a fluke? I'm from the Midwest and we typically take just the ACT (I scored a 35). I took the SAT in june and didn't do as well, with 790/670/680. Is that too low for finalist status??

I got 222, but i am not a US citizen, so shucks.

You clearly can do better, so take it again.
(if the quote thingy doesn't work, ignore it)

wow you're paranoid

i was invited to a continental breakfast with the principal on thursday...traditionally thats where they tell people theyre semifinalists, so im gonna assume that i am - 220 in illinois

you'd need to score pretty low to show PSAT was a fluke.

Aw... I wish that my principal would invite us to a breakfast...

:)

how low? lol i'm being paranoid

I'm just guessing, but maybe like below 2000? I really dont know for sure. Plus it would have to be in conjunction with many other factors like GPA/Essay too.

Don't worry about it.

:)

I thought you weren't supposed to disclose that you were a National Merit semifinalist until 9/14?

Remember to be careful what you say on these forums; you never know who's reading...though I seriously doubt the National Merit Scholarship Program would do anything to you...
