Has anybody been notified?

You will be notified by your school sometime in mid to late September.

State Cutoffs have been posted here and you can look up your status.

I was notified today.

How were you notified?

My principal called me.

How is that possible? The National Merit website says September, I don't think they'd release it this early. Are you sure your letter of notification for candidacy didn't come late? I got that at the end of last year.

I'm pretty positive it was released (well, I'll just speak for my school). My principal's a pretty serious woman, and she doesn't just go around calling students at home for fun. She said she wants me to come pick up the finalist application in her office when school starts. I don't know, it sounds like the real thing to me. Maybe semi-finalists came out early this year. I really have no idea; I'm just relaying the message left on my answering machine.

The posted cutoffs are for last year (class 2005), aren't they?

Hey, elphaba88, my principal pulled me out of Physics today and told me I'm a semi-finalist too :) It must have been released early this year, like you said.

Letters have gone out to the Principals with packages to give to the semi-finalists. The public announcement is Sept 14. Until then, only the semi-finalist and family is supposed to find out.

where are the posted cutoffs?

I don't think this year's cutoffs have been posted yet. Last year, semi-finalists started hearing from their schools right about now.

My son & his school were notified today in assembly. He has to go to a meeting with all the folks who were selected as semi/finalists tomorrow at 7:15 for more info. His school had 34 kids chosen out of the 70+ in the state, which is the highest number in the school's history.
Starion

Good heavens, your son goes to an exceptional school. I think I was one of like 3 in my school population of 3000+. California has 1000+ semifinalists, so our showing's pretty dismal.

Those who are in...did your state score go up or down from last year?

Hey... wait a second...

Will the finalist papers be mailed directly to homeschoolers? Or will the students pick them up at the school they took the test?

Do you regular guys get notifications sent to your house even? Hmmm... curious.

I hope my local school gets notified anyway. Last year, all the semi-finalists got their name in the newspaper. I'll be super peeved if my name is left out simply for the fact that I'm homeschooled.

lol Yes, it's petty, but a little recognition is nice, you know?

anyone from the east coast heard yet? anyone in NY??

This thread almost makes me look forward to the first week of school. Almost.

Anybody know this years stat for the NE Boarding School Pool? This is not a state by state but a pool of schools.
