To All You National Merit Scholars...

To become a National Merit Scholar finalist you need to take the SAT to "ensure" your SAT-prowess and all. But I'm curious what those SAT scores were for you and how they compared to your PSAT scores taken earlier. Were they similar (ie 220/2250) or not so much (ie 220/2000)? Thanks!

The conventional wisdom collected from postings here is that an SAT over 2000 is sufficient.

I have also heard that is needs to be equal to the lowest state score. In other words, if the lowest score for a state for semi-finalist is 200, then the SAT qualifying score (no matter what state) is 2000. We are all just guessing, of course, no one knows for sure!

That does make sense. I live in Nebraska and our cut-offs have been incredibly low. 205-ish I believe.

Thanks!
