I was a commended student on the PSAT, and was invited to apply for a scholarship from my father's company based on that criteria. I haven't heard back from them yet about it, so I was wondering if anybody else in my position has heard back from them? If I haven't gotten anything from them at this point, am I simply out of luck? If you got a "special scholarship" in past years, around when did they send the letter out to you?

My younger son got one. I think it came around this time…maybe more towards the end of the month.

On Monday, you can call NMCorp and ask when those get sent.

Nat’l Merit Corp 847-866-5100

I hope they haven’t been sent yet. I’m in the exact same boat

I haven’t got anything yet either. I’ll call today (Thanks mom2collegekids!). I’ll pray for all of us to hear something soon b4 we worry too much!

If you have any luck let us know. When I called the lady said she wasn’t allowed to tell me when they mail them

S1 in same situation as OP. We did received notification on 3/13 that he has been awarded “at least the minimum $3K award”. Once notified, to be eligible for a higher amount (assumming the corporate scholarship has a range) you must submit the CSS/Profile to NMSC (code 0085).

When I spoke with NMSC on 3/15 about the financial procedure, they said they will begin to review that financial info at the beginning of May. THEY WERE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING STUDENTS ABOUT INITIAL AWARDS. So, Don’t give up hope yet.

If you think you have a strong chance - consider working on the CSS if you haven’t already. It’s a truely horrific form.

I have asked on another post but maybe someone knows here: Is the mid-May date really accurate? Anyone with experience around this? Suggestions? Do we just base a decision on the known $3K/yr and if S1 gets a $10K award we smile broadly but resign ourselves to “if only we had known earlier”.

I don’t know the answer about the “mid May” date for final amounts of scholarships.

However, you might consider contacting your child’s top choices and ask for an extension of the May 1st deadline. Some will, some won’t.

My son just yesterday received a letter. It stated that the amount is fixed and not subject to increase or decrease, pursuant to and agreement with NMSC and the sponsor company.

mom2collegekids- thank you soooo much for posting that number for National Merit Corp. I had called the number on the back of my son’s packet, and it didn’t get me anywhere. When I called the number you posted, the young lady who answered was extremely kind and connencted me with someone who could answer my questions. Thank You!!

For those of us who are still waiting and hoping for a “Special Scholarship,” I was told that some of them might take several more weeks yet. Depending on the company, some of these scholarships are given to National Merit Finalists first. They need to wait for their acceptance of the scholarship before giving it to the Commended Students,… I was also told that this procedure varies with the different companies - that the companies can choose how they want it set up. Soooooo… let’s keep hoping and praying!

That is true. Some companies give the remaining ones as special scholarships. So it depends on the company you or your parents work for.

My D received notification a few days ago about having received a NM corporate scholarship.

The corporate scholarships were mailed out from March 10th
