Anyone hear yet about a Corporate "special" scholarship administered by the National Merit Corp? Just looking for company while we wait. Should be sometime real soon.

Are you asking about awards given to some students who do NOT make NMF?

Notices for NMFs receiving corporate awards will be sent April 25

http://www.nationalmerit.org/Merit_R&I_Leaflet.pdf

NOTE: If NMSC receives notification of a change in college choice from a Finalist after mailing a college-sponsored Merit Scholarship offer to that student, the Finalist cannot be offered another college-sponsored Merit Scholarship award. This applies even if the new choice of college is one that also sponsors Merit Scholarship awards. Therefore, a Finalist who has previously reported a sponsor college as first choice but is uncertain about it may choose to notify NMSC that he/she is now “undecided”; such notification must be received at NMSC, via mail or by fax to (847) 866-5113, before April 25. The Finalist can subse- quently report a firm college choice that NMSC receives by May 31.

I was notified that I received a corporate scholarship last week.

Were you notified by the corporation or by NM?

I see on the link that mom2 sent that NM began sending corporate scholarships on March 7th. Hm, that must mean my son didn’t get one then. Too bad!

My son Hasn’t received one yet either. Not sure if it was sent by alphabetical order of the last name or not. After all the school choice request thingee from NM last month, we are so confident we would get one. Let’s hope for the $2500 from NM then!ha,ha!

I’m certain my son wouldn’t receive the 2,500 one since we’re in Ca. and there are kids with better scores in this large state. I don’t know if there’s a way to confirm with with NM but it would be nice to have closure. Maybe they’ll send a denial letter or something.

my son received one and the letter came from NM

margun,

Are you saying you received a denial or a scholarship?

My DD received a letter from NM Corporation last Sat notifying us that she is offered a corporate NM scholarship from my employer. She had to send her acceptance back, which we did, of course.

Congratulations to all who have rec’d letters!!

We were really hoping, (dare I say expecting?) for this one for DS12 as his stats are higher than DS10 who received the scholarship.

It’s particularly frustrating that they only send winners notification “beginning March 7th”. They notify you in May if you did not get the scholarship. So now we are left wondering if , hopefully, somehow, maybe, it got delayed or lost in the mail, or they havent sent it yet… but equally fearful that it isnt going to turn out well.

Yes, congratulations to those who have gotten this scholarship!! How wonderful!!!

just called National Merit 1-847-866-5100.
They are SO friendly and helpful!!

Not all decisions have been made yet. It may be several more weeks before decisions are released. They will come to the students home address by regular mail.

It seems to take NMCorp awhile to get the Corporate ones sorted. They often have to contact NMFs to discuss which merit (corporate or college) will net the most money. So, it’s a process.

Yeah! I also called NM this morning. The rep said the Corp. sponsor award letters are mailing out by rolling basis. It depends on how soon the corp finishes their review or something. So we will just wait and see.

Thank-you so much for the info!

My twins also got their corporate scholarship letter last week while we were on Spring Break. I think they were both being considered for NM scholarship but the corporate scholarship is more. Our last name starts with S so I’m not sure sure NM is going to alphabetical order

Based on my call to NMSC this morning it is done by corporation. Not necessarily alphabetical by corp. They were still waiting for some school choice info from some candidates and final decisions had not yet been made on the one DS is waiting on.

Good luck to all.

Update on us with some thoughts that might be helpful:

My son got his corporate scholarship in the mail today. We were expecting 6K a year. What it said was, “a minimum of $2,000 a year but you may be eligible for more if you and your family provide financial information to NMSC.”

So, we needed to add NMSC to the CSS Profile ($16) today and I guess we’ll wait to hear if they’ll increase the scholarship amount. We would guess that they will based on our income, but I guess we’ll wait and see. And I’m not sure when we would know that but I suppose I could call at some point.

skier, I believe you are correct in that a lot of our kids never put a first choice so NM had to wait for them to ID a first choice before sending the scholarship.

I hope this info helps someone.

Congrats!

For those who are getting Corporate Schollies that are multi-year. Each year you’re going to get some paperwork to follow, so watch for that. It may involve sending in transcripts or whatever. This is just to show proof that you’re still enrolled in college.

a few more bits of info:
MIN VS MAX: my DS10 won a corporate scholarship with a minimum and maximum range. You do need to provide NMSC with financial info as well as details on the financial aid package you will be getting from the school. Unfortunately you hear about the increase about mid MAY - too late for it to impact the decision making process. No amount of pleading would get them to give me that info earlier. I have heard but dont know for sure that as long as you still have unmet need you can get the maximum amount.

RENEWALS: our renewal notice came in the mail about 3 weeks ago. It directs you to a website. Must be completed by 3/28. requires GPA and your certification of continued full time enrollment

I will also say that the NMSC has some of the friendliest, helpful people of any of this type of organization.

Congrats to all the winners so far!!
Still hoping here
