National Merit

Please tell me if you think I'll be National Merit based on my percentages- I live in Florida.

National %

CR- 97 %

M- 95 %

W- 98 %

Total: 98 %

State

CR- 98%

M- 96 %

W- 98 %

Total: ?????

Looks like you are going to be commended. Actual scores would help, though.

Im also very anxious about my National merit chances. my scores is a 220 in California, which places me at 99% nationwide, and statewide it places me in the 99, 96, and 99 percentiles by subject, but i dont know about overall. How are my chances?
The cutoff last year was 220. Any reason for that to change for better or worse?

^Same situation right now in terms of borderline. I live in Arizona. I got a 212 (66 critical reading, 76 math, 70 writing and 99th percentile overall). Last year’s cutoff for my state was 212 so I’m counting on the cutoffs for state to either go down or stay the same. Do you people think the cutoffs for this year will go up or down? I asked a couple people I know and they all said probably down. And my SAT teacher told me that he heard from a couple reliable sources that the cutoff for AZ will be 209 but I have no idea how those “sources” came upon that info.

@Stoness:
It all depends on how the rest of the juniors in the state of CA did on the PSAT this fall…right? The NMS semifinalist cut-off changes from year to year. It could go up or down this year.

Whether you are awarded NMS semifinalist status or not, your score indicates that you’ll do quite well on the SAT. You’ll likely be a strong applicant to all of the UC schools. If you take the SAT a couple of times, you’ll probably earn a score in the 2200-2400 range which will make you a very competitive applicant for top-tier universities.

No one knows (including a “SAT teacher”) what will happen to the scores. There is ENDLESS speculation on the national merit forum out here on CC about this every year. They did spike upwards two years ago, then came down some this year. But it is like trying to predict the stock market. Anyone who tells you they know something… doesn’t. Spend your time now getting ready for the SAT and picking out your reach/match/safety colleges. There is no point at all in speculating on this until they provide that info in the fall. Usually the info goes to your school late in the summer, and they are supposed to notify you. There is always a thread out here in CC where people report their scores and whether they made it, so you can keep an eye on that starting in late August. Until then, it is all just complete guessing.

------Bump------

Commended (10 Char.)

will a 212 make it in florida?
