I live in California so the cutoff is about 218-220. Yesterday I took the practice test for this year and got a CR:65, M:71, and W:68. Today I took the 2006 PSAT and I got a CR:64, M:76, and W: 74. That was a score jump from 204 to 214. I really feel like I could get an 80 on the math section. My critical reading fluctuates a lot however. One section today I got -7 while the other I only got -3. I'm pretty sure my writing will stay consistent between 68-74. What do you think about my chances for National Merit Scholarship?

That’s not making sense; your reading only differed by 1 point, yet you claim it “fluctuates a lot”? Seems like your writing fluctuates more, yet you contend that “68-74” is consistent.

My sections in critical reading change more. One section I may get -7 and the other I might get -3. In writing, the curves were different for the two different PSATs. Missing 4 got me a score of 68 on one and missing 2 on the other got me a 74. My fluctuations was pertaining more to my raw score rather than to my scaled score.

Sorry about the misunderstanding haha. Well i think the cutoff for Cali last year was 221, and California typically has a relatively high cutoff, so I think you should study some more.

Okay. I’ll get back to silverturtle’s writing guide and direct hits.

Side note: The national merit scholarship commended is only between 201 and 205 correct?

lol, I’m a Jew, my state has like a 210 cut off, but I probably won’t even make a 185

Interesting… especially because your name is “asianandproud”…

I wish my state had a 210 cut off…
I hate the fact that I live in NJ! 223 cut off!!

^This made me laugh. I really wonder what any of that has to pertain to this actual topic…

Again, the national merit scholarship commended is only between 201 and 205 correct?

Check this website: [National Merit Scholarships](http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html)

The cutoff for commended for Class of 2012 was 202
Class of 2011: 201
2010: 201

205 should be more than enough for commended.
