I got an offer through national merit of a corporate scholarship (1k per year). I had OSU designated as my first choice from the beginning (easily before March 1st.) Does my offer mean that I didn’t get the Distinguished scholarship, or whatever it’s called, from OSU? Or is the Distinguished Scholarship thingy separate from the actual National Merit Scholarship Corporation?

I don't think the two are related. To my knowledge, OSU hasn't sent any information regarding its Distinguished NMF scholarships, which I understand to be administered by OSU apart from the NMSC corporate awards. Although I did read somewhere that the OSU Distinguished "includes" the NMSC award. I don't know exactly what that means. It's all pretty confusing to an old guy. :)

My son is counting on the Distinguished. Waiting....waiting....

The Distinguished scholarship is separate from the National Merit corporate and NM awards. In other words, the amount that you win via the $2500 or the corporate awards would be incorporated into the OSU amount: if you receive the Distinguished, $1000 a year would be applied to OSU so OSU pays $1000 less a year. You cannot receive more on top of the Distinguished Award. OSU is happy when they pay less!

I'm confident of this information since I called OSU today to confirm the procedures. Distinguished awards will be going out around April 4th as I recall.
