national rankings

is it true villanova will be ranked nationally next year? any thoughts on where it will fall? they wouldn’t do it if it was gunna be bad right?

I don’t know about next year, but it will probably happen within the next 5 years. We still need a research-oriented phD program before we can re-categorize ourselves as a National Research University.

It is not that difficult to estimate where Nova would fall on the national list.

These are the criteria. ^ The only thing that would change between being ranked as a regional masters institution and a national research institution is that High School Counselor ratings will be factored in (7.5% of total score), and percentage of incoming freshman who were in the top 10% of their H,S will be counted instead of top 25%. (This will benefit us because out top 10% of H.S class rate is pretty high). Everything else would remain equal.

Nova could fall anywhere between 25-50 IMO (I know, this is a huge range, but its reasonable).

As far as “they wouldnt do it if it were bad right?”… idk about that. Villanova is staffed by extremely mediocre administrators who are not that bright.

^^ lol on that last comment, I’m assuming you are a current student. I am a current student as well and 90% of the I feel like that. Personally, I am very happy we are being moved to the national universities category as we are certainly more along the lines of the top schools in that category.

Not sure how many of you were at Father Peter’s town hall meeting, bur yes, we are moving to the national univversi category next year as classified by the Carnegie foundation. As long as we are pumping out 20+ Ph.D’s every year, we are considered a national university.

Im not sure, but I saw in a statement by the universities president that Nova did meet the 20 PhD criteria this year, and I guess that means it will be ranked nationally which is so exciting!! Nova really deserves to be put in a better ranking, the other universities its going against in the regional list dont even compete lol.

My question is, if nova did hit 20 phd degrees this year, is that enough to make it a national university? is one time of doing this enough, or does it have to be consecutive years? Hopefully we see nova finally in the top 50 where it belongs this coming year, and ill kinda be disappointed if we have to wait again for next year to see
