This is well deserved. I wonder where Villanova will rank in comparison to current US News national university rankings. I suspect somewhere between 50 and 65, given stats and comparisons to other currently ranked schools. Villanova is a great school and growing by leaps and bounds. It’s about time that it was elevated to this level. The change in designation is likely to improve recruitment/selection as well.

50-65 would be a great rank to start out since it’s around the Northeastern / GWU tier.

Northeastern and GWU are R1, Villanova is R3. They have a long way to go in the research category.

@TomSrOfBoston what would you expect for a Villanova ranking? I wouldn’t think beyond Fordham/American University?

@proudDad26 A lot will depend on the subjective peer and GC ratings compared to other National schools.

Makes sense. These rating decisions have always been somewhat opaque. I guess we will know next summer.

A few years ago people were saying top 40. Probably somewhere around there. I’ve been paying attention to TomSrofboston for some time and he is clearly extremely pro northeastern and will troll various threads and discourage students from attending any other university besides northeastern… Many would still argue that Villanova is a better university than northeastern, but don’t bother having a discussion about it with him as he is the Donald Trump of college confidential.

For an unbiased view of the methodology of rankings, I encourage you to see this directly from US News: http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/how-us-news-calculated-the-rankings

R1 vs R3 research activity does not determine whether a school is ranked higher than another. There are many other factors critical in the rankings of the schools and I encourage you to view it here.

Mid-40s to 50 seems reasonable, based on the 25-75 SAT scores for schools in that neighborhood. Peer assessments should be favorable as well, if their long reign atop the North rankings is any indication. Personally, I would like to see Villanova breathing down BC’s neck, but that can wait for now. :))

My daughter received $22K scholarship from Case Western, currently ranked 37. Zip from Villanova, for whatever that tidbit is worth.

@paparent106 Villanova seems to be phasing out a lot of its merit money in favor of need-based. Certainly, you can argue the pros and cons of that philosophy, but I hardly see where it would impact its ranking. Landing somewhere in CWRU’s vicinity would be a fine achievement.

I have insider information that suggests we will be ranked anywhere from 30-50.

Any new thoughts on where Nova will be ranked next year since the undergrad business school was just ranked #1 by Bloomberg Businessweek and the acceptance rate is about to plummet 10 percentage points because of the NCAA Chanpionship win?

I will readjust my original prediction and say somewhere between 40 and 55. I can’t see them beating out BC or CWRU. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tied with a school like Tulane or Lehigh. I bet they beat out GW. I’m going to place my chips on #47. Any other wagers?

USNWR rankings out today. Villanova is #50. Congratulations and well deserved! I guess I wasn’t far off with my estimate in June : )

Congrats! Nova has worked very hard to come in strong and the results show it. No longer are they a “Regional” school!
