National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS)

Yup, it's a scam.

Again, to all those who say it is a scam - why did Harvard's president keynote a conference, then? If he didn't and they lied, why have they not been sued to oblivion? How do you know it is a scam?

I got one too. It didn't say anything about paying on the postcard.

The funny part is the guy's last name is Nobel.
I think this is a scam, otherwise the guy on the postcard wouldn't say that he's a member of Nobel family.

the website seems legit thou... idk, hasnt it been 7-10 days yet?

Wellll this may be a scam because its not exactly what I have heard of...

But I CAN tell you this...

At my school, we have something called NHS. National Honor Society. Its like a group of people from the school who have a (I think) at least 3.5 or 3.6 GPA? Something like that...anyways, you have to go down to the Guidance Counselor Office and sign up to join, and then I think you have an interview with someone Important, then they decide if you're able to be admitted. Just a few weeks ago, the NHS people from this year were inducted by the people who were in it last year. They made a big old thing of it, ceremony and whatnot...I was thinking about joining next year...

But then, I don't know if this is the same thinnnng...cause with NHS they don't really send you a postcard, haha.. Who knows.

hmm...it's 3.8 GPA at my school. and I think they have NHS at most schools, cause it's national, you know.

Yes...NHS is...uh..nation-wide...
and what separates it from these other "honor societies" is that they don't ask for money or try to market anything, they usually set it up like a club and involve the students in specific activities, and in most schools they have an intensive, student initiated application process....
SO yeah...NHS is not at all the same thing...

This isn't NHS. NHS is run as far as I know by the school itself. It's definitely not the NHS, because I have been contacted by both independently. It's an 89 GPA at my school. Not sure what that translates too.

I got the NHSS letter today.

wait...so...
IS IT A SCAM?
and if not...
IS IT WORTH IT?

does anyone know ANYTHING about this program?!?!?

what about Who's Who?? all these organizations seem pretty shady to me.

btw, NHS is definitely prestigious. everything else is a scam.

yeah i think it most likely is one. i got mine today (a long 7-10 days) and it says have it in by march 30th or pay an extra $5 late fee.
they have a quote on the paper that says:
"According to member Laurel Angelica, 'I feel that NSHSS was instrumental in helping me gain admission to my first-choice college, Princeton University.' " <<<<I'm SURE thats what did it...

yeah i got the same thing but i don't no...
some people say its a scam and some say it's incrediblty useful...
WHAT Is IT?????HELEELELP

weird... i do fairly well on crap... yet i didn't get one... racial...profiling?

oh and national honor society is legit... but ours is free through our school... and it's linked to the national chapter... not sure what this is...

I got one last year, didnt want to do it, my mom, howoever, signed me up. There's nothing really really important about it, if you want to, you can attend some important conferences and meet some important people. Plus there are some other benefits that I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll see if i can find them...

I got mine today. Is it like the infamous scam of the National Honor Roll? I hope this thing is genuine.

It's just another National Honor roll, who's who for high school students - buy a book for $40 moneymaking scheme. And you are not the one making the money! = not something college admins will be impressed by. However if you are worried you might miss out on something by not replying - reply but do not send money to buy book etc.

Well, when I got the card, my dad immediately wrote it off as a scam. And whether or not it's a scam, since it costs $45 to join, I'm going to stay out of it.

It says on the website that it's not like Who's Who... but then, I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about it. :)

I, too, got that today and I just laughed as I threw it in the trash. It's just another vanity publication.

However, I also received another letter today notifying me that I am an Illinois State Scholar. I haven't heard of this before so I'm not sure if this is legit. Could someone from IL shed some light on this via PM? I'm skeptical but reserving judgment since I haven't found anything thus far claiming it to be a joke honor like Who's Who. Thanks (:
