NAtional Society of High School Scholars

My daughter has received some letters this summer telling her that she has been nominated or invited to be in things like the NAtional Society of High School Scholars or Who's Who among American High School Students or to attend a NAtional Youth Leadrship Conference. Does anyone know if these are "real" honors or just scams?

Its just scams where they make you pay like 5,000USD to go on some lame trip. I get those letters all the time, and just trash em.

actually i got those letters too my junior year. most paid conferences and symposiums are scams. if she's really interested, apply for free research programs, which are widely available out there. if u live in tx, PM me cuz i can tell you about one.

Yeah, just think about it, why would they make you pay ?

Most of the ones that are of importance are free, or have very minimal charges.

So these aren't the kinds of things to include on her college application?

Sure you can. But, do you think the college is going to care that you payed 5000USD for your daughter to be considered an honor student? I don't think so.
