I just got selected by this thing by my school but I was wondering, what is it?? At first I was shocked and honored that I got selected. But then I realized that it costs money. Like thousands of dollars...
Im getting a lil suspicious. Why would it cost money if you're selected by the school? I don't get it. Also if this isn't a scam, will it look good on the college app?

I just got accepted too! What grade are you in? I looked over it and I believe it is something along the lines of Duke Tip, however it isn’t at a designated college. There are lots of colleges all over the country and a lot of programs to choose from. They have a website too. Think of it this way. Though the school doesn’t select you for Duke Tip, it is pretty much the same thing. And it costs money too. A guy at my school went last year and I just talked to him and he said that it was a great experience, that he loved it, and that he still talks to some of the people he met there today. I don’t know if I’m gonna go because of dates, location, and of course money. But I’m considering. I don’t think it is a scam though.

From what I know, it’s pretty much just a joke. It’s not a competitive/prestigious program at all. It’s a waste of money for what you’re getting in return.

I am a former nominee who chose not to attend. The program is beyond expensive and not worth all of the money, there are better programs out there that are residential and cost much less money or are all together free. From my understanding those who have attended enjoyed it, beyond that I have not heard too much good about it.

It’s personalized to make it sound like you’re a prestigious student( which I am sure you are), but they just want to make money. It’s nothing prestigious considering that a lot of people I know got letters from this place. It’s not BAD, but it’s not like you’re one of the few students who was selected to go from your school.

Plus it costs thousands of dollars, which is not worth it in my opinion.

Also…no way you’re a myolie wu fan? that’s cool! I love her acting

I literally just got back from nslc. It will be the best 10 days of your life. It wont help for college but boy you will use stuff in life that you learn from the program.

It’s not competitive or prestigious. You were probably recommended by a teacher/guidance counselor (as in my case). It’s not a scam because if you pay, they do give you a pretty good program. However, this isn’t going to give you a leg up in college admissions. Generally, anything you have to pay thousands for is the same way. I would suggest looking into internships or merit based programs.

I just came home from the NSLC Mastering Leadership program yesterday. Though I doubt it will impress a college admissions committee, it was a truly life-changing experience in ways that matter more than getting into a top tier college.
