How do the National Universities and the Master’s Universities compare? What is a top tier Master’s University equivalent to in the standard National Universities list?

Thanks for your help.

To give you some idea, a number of schools have moved from the master's lists to the national list. URichmond was top-ranked in a few years ago in the southern region and moved to the Liberal Arts list where it is now #34 (2007 edition). Perhaps someone else knows of others schools that have made such a move in the past few years.

Villanova is one of the top Masters granting institutions in the United States. I would guess they would only be ranked around 75 on the National Universities ranking.

So, Master's institutions are around the 2nd tier in comparison to the National institutions?

No, not at all. They just have a different focus. There are plenty of Master's Universities that would easily be in the top 75 on the National Universities list if they were to be that type of school.
