U.S. news rankings

Villanova seems to have a very good reputation academically and i am curious why it is not in the U.S. news rankings? anybody know why or have opinions?

It’s under master colleges or something. Ranked #1

When I went for a visit they brought that up. I can’t remember what they said exactly, but it had something to do with like having a graduate school or something? and the way the list is determined takes into account something? I don’t know! I’m not very helpful! I just know that they’re aware of the fact haha.

They are a regionally ranked school, not a nationally ranked school. Regionally they are #1.

USNWR has multiple categories for it’s rating:

National Universities
Schools in the National Universities category, such as Yale and UCLA, offer a full range of undergraduate majors, master’s, and doctoral degrees. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research.

Master’s Universities
Master’s Universities offer a full range of undergrad programs and some master’s programs but few doctoral programs. These rankings are split into four regions: North, South, Midwest, and West.

Liberal Arts Colleges
Among the liberal arts colleges are schools like Oberlin and Harvey Mudd, which emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study.

Villanova is listed as a Masters University which is ranked regionally and Villanova is #1 for its region.
How that compares to other categories is open for debate.

Since Villanova does not have a PhD program, it cannot be included in the USNews national rankings. However, the school is ranked in the Master’s and Regional Programs.

Villanova’s reputation can be translated into the Liberal Arts rankings by viewing Richmond.

Richmond was ranked #1 Master’s University for the South region until 2006 when Richmond was reclassified as a Liberal Arts College in response to its relatively small 3000+/- enrollment. Today Richmond is ranked #30 among Liberal Arts Colleges.

I am familiar with both Richmond and Villanova. I believe that their academics are similar with perhaps Nova having an edge due to the competition among northeastern schools.

Although I do not believe that Villanova could be classified as a Liberal Arts College due to its size I believe that Richmond’s reclassification can be of some guide.
