@CoolChem
If you still haven’t heard back yet, maybe email your state selection coordinator. That’s what I did and it was nice to know a general idea of when decisions would be released… you can find who it is on this link from the NYSCamp webpage:
@blinja@CoolChem
I emailed my state coordinator on April 9th, and he said “you should be hearing very soon”, but still no word, positive or negative. I’m anxious because I would love to attend like both of you surely are.
I would imagine that we would hear back by the end of the week, but I don’t really have anything to judge it off of since last year’s candidates had already heard back by now. Hopefully the prolonged silence pays off!
@AstroAddiction@CoolChem
Huh. I would think so too! I heard about the camp through my IB Bio teacher, and she forwarded me an email from the state coordinator which said that March 15th was the “Deadline to notify the NYSF of the delegate selection”. At the time I assumed that was for the SSC to send the names into the camp office… if that assumption is correct, it seems like a lot of states are taking extra time. I haven’t seen that date anywhere else, though. When I emailed my coordinator to ask when decisions would be released, she said by the end of the week, but they actually didn’t get sent out till the next Tuesday.
If it comes down to it, I’m sure you could email the camp office as well to ask about your application status.
I was incredibly nervous when I didn’t hear back until April 2. I can’t imagine how you two feel! I wish you luck…
@blinja Oof. Thanks for the info! I tried emailing my state coordinator but it said her email didn’t work and I looked her up on my governmnet website. So i don’t know what’s up
@CoolChem I’m starting to think that our states just forgot about us, haha. I wonder what’s taking so long??
And thanks @blinja . I’ll update here if I finally get ANY type of an email back. Which I hopefully will, but who knows at this point?
@AstroAddiction
Try emailing the National office… they’ve gotten back to me same day every time I have questions about the forms/logistical things. I believe the email is on the website…
@AstroAddiction I have not heard back, but I’m from California though sooooo. I wouldn’t be that surprised if they only get back to me the day before camp starts
I just recieved the email too! They must have sent out emails from NYSF rather than the state coordinators from some states this year.
I’m so excited to meet all of you this summer, @katedagreat@CoolChem@blinja !
what about those of us still waiting? I know California is a big place but we submitted the applications in February. Shouldn’t they be out by now?
Anyone still looking for their decisions?
@sumguy
Another delegate started a group chat today from the Facebook page and everyone is saying their states… there’s someone California on there.
I’d email your coordinator/the camp office to be sure you didn’t miss an email or to confirm your status.
@sumguy Yeah, I haven’t received a decision either. I’m just assuming I’m rejected and have been “ghosted”. Hopefully not a preview of things to come since a lot of jobs seem to be like that lol. Not too hung up about it, should be a fun last chill summer with friends and family time + work to save some spending money.
I sent her an email for california asking for an update but she ghosted me. I’m guessing we didn’t make the cut. Sucks to be Californian sometimes. At least Cal gives in state tuition ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@sumguy (And @mic347 if you’re from California) I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are two students from California in the NYSC delegates group chat so it seems that both of the California students have already been chosen. It’s quite rude of the people in charge of your state’s application system to not notify the unsuccessful applicants though. I hope that is a change they will make for next year.
I’m not from California, but I’ve called (and left voice messages) my state’s coordinator no less than 3 times now to no response of any kind. Neither my friend nor I have received a response, would you mind checking for my state if I DM you? I’m assuming the delegates have been picked, since I went through the historical list and for my state and they always come from these certain districts with more access to science opportunities early on in HS (aka more well off). @AstroAddiction
