We've talked about it quite a bit on the Stanford forum, but I'm just wondering if anyone here knows anything about how Emory deals with Native applicants.

I know that Dartmouth and Stanford are very well known for their "consideration" of Native applicants as well as their support, but I've not heard much about Emory's take on Native applicants.

Are there any current students here who could give me some input on the Native community at Emory or anyone who knows a bit about how a Native's application is viewed?

By the way, I am 1/2 Native American and enrolled in the Chippewa, Lac du Flambeau tribe, so my heritage is a big part of my family's life. Do you think I should incorporate some of my experience in my essay or do you think that would be "pulling out the Native card" as some people call it?

Any input is much appreciated, thanks and happy holidays! :).

As far as I know there is not really a Native community at Emory. But I’m like 99% sure the Emory AdCom would eat it up, because Emory enjoys taking URMs… fits in with the whole “we’re diverse” image Emory tries so hard to portray.

I’m thinking of majoring in Psychology, possibly double-majoring in English.

Emory does not have an engineering major, if you want that Georgia Tech is a GREAT tech school (3rd in the nation) and it’s located right in Atlanta. Do you want to become an engineer or are you just interested in majoring in it (but have hopes for grad school or something)?

Well, I don’t really know. lol. I just really enjoy physics, math, sociology, etc. and engineering seems to incorporate all of those things.

Does Emory have a major that really incorporates a medicine and math or just science and math in general? I suppose I could just look in the viewbook as well, lol. :D.

@dpattzlover: Emory has a neuroscience major (something many other colleges don’t have), so you could look into that. I think you could also double major in math and another science, just check the website to make sure.

@Zlakhani1: I’m not an expert but I don’t think it’s that hard to really declare a double major. If there is a GPA requirement I haven’t heard of one. I do know that you can’t double major in certain subjects (i.e. you can’t double major in Political Science and International Studies)… to make sure of the limitations visit the department pages of the subjects you are interested in.

I actually have no idea about double majoring at Emory Oxford, but you should email someone from Oxford if you want to find out.
