Native American Applicants.

Hey NU applicants.

We've talked about it quite a bit on the Stanford forum, but I'm just wondering if anyone here knows anything about how NU deals with Native applicants.

I know that Dartmouth and Stanford are very well known for their "consideration" of Native applicants (that is, they have relatively large Native communities, good support groups, etc.), but I've not heard much about NU's Native population.

Are there any current students here who could give me some input on the Native community at NU or anyone who knows a bit about how a Native's application is viewed?

And, by the way, I am 1/2 Native American and enrolled in the Chippewa - Lac du Flambeau tribe, so my heritage is a big part of my family's life. Does anyone have suggestions on how I should incorporate this into my essay (Why NU?) or if I should incorporate this aspect of my life at all?

Any input is much appreciated; thanks!

According to the statistics regarding freshmen who entered NU in Fall 07, there were .2% Native Americans...meaning around 3-4 in a class of 1,981 freshmen. That said, I unfortunately have never met any Native Americans or heard of any groups regarding Native Americans on campus. While NU is generally diverse and has a very wide range of cultural groups, this is one I have not seen represented in the past three years.
