Natl Waiting List?

My friend's ds got a letter that said he is on the National Waiting List and will find out about admissions in late February or early March. What does that mean? Have some kids gotten accepted and this is a wait-list situation? Or have the decisions been delayed? Did every applicant get this?

TIA

Most of the applicants that receive appointments to WP will find out in late February or early March. The exceptions (probably less than 20% of the total) are applicants that have LOAs and a nomination, or have principal nominations and are fully qualified.

The short explanation of the National Wait List is if you are fully qualified and have a nomination but have not “won” an Appointment through your nomination source (US Senator, Congressperson, VP or Pres), you will automatically be placed on the national waiting list. The candidates on this list are “ranked” and selected in the order of that rank. There is absolutely NO way for a candidate to determine his/her actual ranking even after (if) they receive an appointment. All your friend’s DS can do is wait and hope (pray).

Every applicant does NOT get put on the NWL. Only those that are fully qualified are put on the list. Unfortunately not everyone on the list receives an appointment.

Has anyone gotten an appointment yet? Is that still possible for him!

Yes - some people have received appointments. However the majority will not receive their offers until late February or early March. So yes he still has a chance of getting an appointment.

My DD is also on the wait list. From what we have been told appointments thus far have been recruited athletes and some from service. Those in service have deployment issues so I think we can all appreciate them going first! Our kids are basically in the pool of qualified applicants and as aglages said we wait! The good news is the pool of applicants has dramatically narrowed. Good luck to everyone. Beat Navy!

I received a letter stating, “the Admissions Committee has qualified your file. West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2013.”

I have a nomination, so does this mean I am on the National Waiting List? I’m in a competitive district, but I believe I received the first nomination (with my Rep’s own writing on it!). Since all appointees must be qualified for admissions also, does this mean EVERYONE is on the NWL until final selections? I’m very confused to whether this is good or bad :(

As the WP letter said: You are qualified and all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List.

Good or bad? You, along with most of the other “qualified” applicants are still in the running for an Appointment. That is certainly better than the alternative.

I am liaison officer and have only seen appointments go out so far to recruited athletes. And for the two states I can see, I can only see two of those. I have candidates who are in the service and fully qualified and have not yet received appointments (although I know they will). At this point, while the Regional Commander may have a good idea of who is going to receive the appointments for any district, they haven’t been sent out yet. So you’re in the same position as approximately 95+% percent of those who are qualified (meaning you passed the medical, CFA, academic minimums and got a nomination).

We are being told that appointments for the bulk of the class (target 1200) will go out the week of Feb 26th to be received by March 2. They are assuming a 100% acceptance this year (meaning no more than 1200 offers will go out, including previous ones, as of that point). Additional offers will only be made on a 1 for 1 basis (as someone declines, someone else will be offered) and this may go into May unfortunately. There will, however, be a 45 day deadline so most offers will have to be accepted (or will be an automatic decline) by mid April.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks marciemi and aglages!! My Field Force Congressional District Coordinator confirmed everything you said. So for all of you who received that confusing letter, it simply means you’re tripled qualified and still in the running for admissions!
