Nature of Life

I have finally decided that I am indeed going to enroll into CBS Honors at the U of M next fall. However, this summer I am doing some cardiovascular research at Mayo Clinic. I will be working 40 hour weeks Monday - Friday. I can miss up to 10 days (preferably, I would miss less than that). I have to miss 2 for orientation (they don't do weekends apparently). Also, Nature of Life is 3 days. That would only leave five days for the family vacation that my family has already planned, paid for, etc.

This is what I am considering. Do the September session of NOL (the 11th - 13th or something around there) so that I can be on the vacation the entire time and not have to come home early. However, I hear that NOL is a great way to make the initial connection with CBS students and faculty. Do you think it would be less beneficial for me to attend NOL in September?

I know that ultimately this is my decision, but I thought I would get the opinions of others.

Heyy, I’ll be going on the September NOL. To be honest I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. CBS is a pretty small college, and they have plenty of opportunities to meet the others. I think last week they had a trip to a Twins game, and next week there’s a CBS end of the year picnic. Don’t worry, if it works better with your schedule just choose the Sept. date. I doubt it’ll make THAT big of an impact in the whole scheme of things.

That’s pretty much what I figured, too. For some reason, certain members of my family thought it was really important that I go in the summer. Well, when I went to register, the NOL for September is completely full. I am going to call and see if they can make an exception. If not, I will just have to go in the summer. That is what I get for putting off my decision for so long (in my defense, it was pretty tough for me… not like I was procrastinating on purpose).

Thanks for the response.
