Naval Academy Chances

I know this my be thinking a little ahead but I’d like some input on this by someone who knows a few things. I’m a Senior in High School. I’m in DEP with a Navy Nuke contract. I ship out June 28, 2016. Here’s a little about me, In high school I was a bit of a slacker student, but I Did take nothing but Honors and AP classes the entire time. I’ve taken Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and am currently taking Precalculus all of which have been at the honors level and all have been straight A’s so far. I Have also taken Earth/space science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, again all at the honors level and mostly A’s. I’ve Taken English 1 and English 2 both Honors and both B’s, I also took AP English language and revieved a C, and am currently taking Regular English 4 with am A. My social study/history classes have been a little rocky mainly because its not my strong point and they were almost all AP. Here’s a list. AP Human Geo- D. AP World History- C and F. Honors U.S. History- B and A. Regular World history-A(just semester two to make up for my F). U.S. Government-B. Honors Economics-A. Ive only taken one year of Foreign language and it was French and I got a C and rather then struggle through French two I chose to opt out of it. My electives weren’t really anything special so I won’t mention them except for my 3 years of MCJROTC. Extracurricular wise I Wasn’t that strong, assistant coach for a little league soccer team for a year, JROTC 2nd lieutenant so I was a platoon commander and admin officer, I worked at Hungry Howie’s, Zaxbys, and Legoland. I haven’t taken the SAT/ACT yet, but I plan to do so soon. My class rank is about 20% out of 300 students.

I plan to apply to the Naval Academy During nuclear power school and would like to know how competitive my high school portion is compared to other nukes who’ll be applying. What are my current chances? And how could I strengthen my chances before I leave? And what can I do during RTC, A school, and NPS to strengthen my chances of getting appointed to the Naval Academy? Any advice and help is much appreciated. (Yeah I know in getting a little ahead of myself but I’d like to be as competitive as possible before I leave/apply)

My S will be attending USNA next year.

Without your test scores and GPA, it’s hard to say for sure, but your grades don’t sound super strong and it doesn’t seem like you have a lot of ECs and athletic and leadership experience. You’d need to be a varsity athlete of some kind and probably a captain, too. It’s very, very competitve. My S goes to a military boarding prep school and there were some students in his class who were denied from military academies.

No Trigonometry, only one year of foreign language, I’d say you have no shot at all unfortunately. Also, you do realize, you need a Senators recommendation to attend a service academy? And I’m not talking a state senator, I’m talking a US Senator. So you would have had to been volunteering for these senators quite some time ago. Your doing good my friend, no doubt, but the academies are a free ride and they are looking for nothing but exceptional students who are quite athletic. Sorry to deflate your hopes.

@Grantlee11 The above is not altogether true. My school does not even offer athletics of any kind and we still send kids to USNA. You just need to show leadership in some way. You also need letters from local politicians and stuff.
