I am leaving for naps in 10 days and im nervous about indoc. I am also going to miss home a lot. Do you guys have any advice for the indoc period or the whole academic year at naps? Any things you wish you knew before going there?
I know someone who did this and had a great experience. First, relax. NAPS is in Newport right? Great town, gorgeous setting and just an overall great area to go to. You are about to embark on a great experience and a great future for yourself. The amazing thing about the military is that your classmates will become your family and you will all help each other succeed. You are going to make lifelong friends, have a great education and a great career. Its normal to be nervous but try to relax and take it all in. Congratulations to you for being accepted into this prestigious and important program. You will be fine. If you have any extra cash go to the Brick Ally Pub for a meal! Second beach is also a great place to relax when you get a day off. The park on Ocean Ave is also a great place to hang out and watch the kite flyers. Enjoy a Dell’s lemonade too. Its all good - I think you made a great decision to pursue the Naval Academy via NAPS. Congratulations!
Thank you! I’ll have it in mind
Former NAPSTER myself…long ago. NAPS is a great program, I got my butt kicked academically but got through the program and did well at USNA. Indoc at NAPS is short, and wasn’t too tough. I had experience with Civil Air Patrol, so the military orientation was pretty easy for me. The majority of NAPsters are fresh out of high school, with a number of fleet USN/USMC type to help show you the way. Keep a positive attitude, study hard, and you will be a Plebe in no time. And BTW --second the Newport is great thing… I met my wife while I was at NAPS, and we go back to Newport pretty regularly. One of my favorite cites (after Annapolis !)
