Over the Thanksgiving break, I was planning to apply to all of my colleges. Everything was going well, I thought I had everything, but when I went to submit my first application, my common app said I have no teacher recommendation letters, which is strange because my counselor and teachers both said they completed it and it was upload to naviance, which is connected to my common app. But when I went on Naviance they said there was none either. I’m very worried right now because my application for one of my colleges is Dec. 1st and this problem is very unexpected. I know my teachers wouldn’t lie to me and say they put the letters on naviance when they didn’t, but it’s still not showing up. What should I do? Should I send in my application without the letters? Can the colleges hold my application until the letters come in?
Check with your guidance counselor first thing Monday morning.
Any time I’ve uploaded a letter to Naviance, it comes up as “submitted” under the kid’s name.
But as long as the letters have been written, it shouldn’t be an issue. If you can email your teachers, you may want to let them know that there’s an issue, just in case they have the original saved on their home computers and not on the cloud.
This is a very fixable problem. But cutting things this close almost guarantees that the next problem won’t be as easy to fix.
Your teachers may very well have uploaded the letters and forms to naviance, but maybe they didn’t actually SUBMIT them yet. Some people like to wait to make sure the student has submitted their application first (because a lot of students will “say” they’re applying to this or that college, but it turns out that fewer actually “do” submit).
