Hello!
I’m having an issue with Naviance and Common App, and seeking advice for what to do to meet the Jan 1st deadline for Harvard/Stanford.
The situation:
I have two letter of recs in Naviance. One is from teacher A and the other is from teacher B. Both show status “Submitted” in Naviance and I requested both recs to be sent to all colleges I’m applying for. However, Common App is only seeing the letter of rec from teacher A! Teacher B’s letter of rec isn’t there.
I’ve tried contacting both my counselor and teacher B, but neither has replied yet after a day. I’ve contacted Common App’s support and was told that they see only 1 recommendation - Naviance didn’t send the second. I’ve contacted Naviance’s support but haven’t gotten a call/email back.
I’m not sure there’s much you can do until classes restart next week. It’s after 4 pm on a holiday weekend. on the east coast.( Naviance headquarters are in Virginia.) And your teachers and guidance counselors are on vacation; many don’t check their email, considering this to be family time.
I’m under the impression-- I may be wrong-- that Naviance is just a clearinghouse for data-- that you would have had to ask your guidance counselor to submit the info recorded in Naviance, and to check on any glitches…
Yeah - you are right. I found another teacher to do a letter of rec, and she submitted it. However, she told me the same thing. I have to wait for my guidance counselor to confirm the letter.
Now just hoping she checks her email . . . is that all I can do?
Does this mean that if my guidance counselor doesn’t confirm by the deadline I won’t have a valid application to Harvard/Stanford? My school doesn’t start until January 4th.
Not sure but could it be possible that those schools only require one recommendation?? I am honestly not familiar with the requirements for each of these schools. Just trying to figure out why that may be happening in naviance. You may have two uploaded but if the schools require one then the second won’t be sent. In our HS the guidance counselor goes into naviance and selects the teacher recommendations and sends them to the appropriate schools.
No, Harvard/Stanford require two. Thankfully, my guidance counselor checked her email and saw my message so I got the new recommendation confirmed. I think that the previous recommendation (that wasn’t sending) was due to a mistake by the teacher somewhere. All is good now though. Thanks for the input!
