Naviance, the software my school uses for Software Prep says that I am on a good track for getting into University of California, Riverside. I have a lower GPA, but it is still in the green. My SAT score is very high compared to the students who have been accepted from my school. I am an out of state applicant. What does this mean? I only took the SAT once. Will that hinder my ability to get into the school?
How would you pay OOS rates ($60K a year) for UCR? What is your home state? It wouldn’t exactly be a top pick for an OOS destination school. Make sure you can be full pay first, as this would no doubt be an advantage. Calculate your UC GPA.
Have other students from your school been accepted to UC Riverside recently? Is that what your school’s Naviance is showing?
I’d look at that one with a squint. How many kids from your school have applied to UCR? Naviance is most accurate when it has a lot of kids applying to a particular college from a particular school.
You need to look at the UC requirements and admissions info, particularly for UCR. The number of times taking the SAT not an issue.
A big issue can be money. Can you and would your family pay full cost for you to go there? The CA state schools are not at all generous to OOSers. Getting in might be a good possibility, but paying for it a whole other.
What do you know about this school? How did it pop up on your list? Do you know a lot about it? Have you been there, know someone well who went there?
UCR admits by major so highly competitive majors such as Engineering/CS/Biological Sciences will require higher than average stats.
The UC’s also calculate and weight their GPA’s differently than many other schools so if your HS does not calculate a UC capped weighted and Fully weighted UC GPA, then the information may be off.
UC’s use only 10-11th grades for the a-g course requirements. You get 1 extra honors point in the calculation for each semester of AP or IB courses taken 10-11th grades only since you are OOS. OOS HS honors classes do not get extra weighting. The capped weighted uses up to 8 extra honors points in the calculation while fully weighted is unlimited.
