Zaphod and Navydoc: can you share some of the spirit week activites at the USNA as Navy preps for Army?

yay! i am so excited....we're having a party! :)
our family friend (who is a naval academy grad) and his family is coming over to watch the game with us, as well others and an ex-afa attendee

Well, for one thing, don't expect to get much sleep.

Pep rallies every night. Recons left and right. Every rate is replied to as "Beat Army, SIR!". At least one full-scale food fight in King Hall (Get out before you're volunteered to clean it up). At least one raid into the Sup and Dant's houses to pull them out and cover them in shaving cream. Massive rumbles in company areas. Airplanes and other Yard decorations moved around. Company Officer offices stuffed with newspaper. Etc., etc.....

It can get pretty wild, so long as the administration lets it.

that just boosted my morale

haha, i love it...i've heard of stories 'back in the old days' they used to do it 'right'....according to our family friend :) he graduated...either 87 or 88, i always seem to get mixed up.

anyways, he loves to amuse me with stories of his academy days, the good, the bad, the ugly, everything, and i love them all! the best are always during army week though, i cant wait to hear more!

Stop with the minus whatever because we don't do that anymore

My company's Army week just got secured because these guys hung dead squirrels in a 2nd class's room. Not only that one them threw it out the window and it just happened to hit a petty officer 5 stories below.

It's always the few that ruin it for the rest.

When I was there, some jerk through a soda can through a Jimmy Leg's windshield and got glass in the poor guy's eye. Almost killed Army Week for the rest of us.

IDIOT!

Unreal.....

Yeah, the minus stuff in the thread title is a bit much.

They stopped doing that altogether? Bummer.

Actually, many things are not as they were in the "good ol' days." I suspect that particularly applies to behaviors that might be described as hazing nowdays. Is the academy better or worse for it? I suppose that is up to the individual to decide.

Maybe the advice about parents "understanding" what we are going through should apply to ol' mids that try to describe what things are like now.
Each year or couple of years is different from the rest; I would guess that a graduate of 1976 would have much different stories from the ones that have been offered in these threads the last few days.

My experience has been great! I have suffered none of the types of behavior that have been described in the last few days on these threads. Was Plebe summer tough? Sure. Is it manageable? Sure.
Has the first semester been challenging? Somewhat. It all depends on the attitude your bring in; your particular company; your academic skills; your ability to manage many different tasks, assignments, etc. You just have to want it.

Oh . . . some might want to read Esquire's article on things that men over 30 shouldn't do. I think using the word "dude" was on the list.

I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself, and I've done that already, so Esquire can go spit.

;-)

Well, evidently a Petty Officer suffered "the type of behavior ...described" today!;) I know a few mids who have their AirSoft guns locked and loaded in preparation for retribution for any Plebe shenanigans...

BTW Zaphod, did you hear about the "Set Aside" flap last year?

(homer simpson)mmmm.....airsoft.....

are those allowed?

Not for Plebes! ;)

"Set Aside" flap? No!

Oh, DO tell! :-D

Airsoft, eh? In my day it was automatic water pistols. I had one instructor (Naval officer teaching us Pascal. Yes, PASCAL.) who used to bring one into class and shoot at anyone who was falling asleep. It was a scream!

Its hard to type when Im laughing. Would that be considered corporal punishment or Corporal punishment?

Who cares? It worked! :-D

Yesterday's noon meal formation D&B played the Star Wars Theme as we marched off. It was hilarious!

Quoth the second class, "For the first time since I-day, D&B were actually cool"

You're kidding!
