I so well remember my first football game - a home Temple game in 2000 when we visited for what I supposed was my one shot trip to hubby's alma matre..never in my wildest dreams expecting I'd actually have a mid, class of 2010 one day! That time we stood outside for part of the marching out on the street, but then scurried in to see them forming up on the field.

It was fun to see it from both perspectives. Make sure you park early - so you aren't worried about trying to deal with your car - and wear comfortable shoes to hustle around - but you know that, mid-dad!

And the thing my husband never told me in our 1st 25 years of marriage - which I discovered on my own from observation back in 2000 is that the mids do NOT sit down at all for the games. Part of the tradition. I recall staring at the stands for an entire quarter before I commented on this to my husband and when I asked him if they sit down he calmly said: "no not during a game" and in shock I told him "all these years that you've talked about life at USNA you never ONCE told me that!" And my laconic man replied: "didn't think it was that important" :-)

Oh, and stay around through the singing of the alma matre and the other team's as well that is also very moving.

v. v. sad game...Navy should have won but they made too many mistakes. Still in all, it was a great 1/C Parents Weekend! Loved going to classes with my son and seeing his room. We even had a company picnic for 1/C parents hosted by our Firsties. They did a great job! Can't believe it's already come and gone.

Hi, I'm dragging my dad (who hates football) to the Navy-Delaware game after CVW. How long before the game does the Brigade march on to the field? Does anyone know if they are going to parade through town before the game?

Go Navy, Beat Wake Forest, Delaware, and ARMY!!!

The mids march over from Taylor avenue, so they don't really go "through town". The march on is usually between 12:15 and 12:30. It takes a while to get nearly 4,000 mids into the stadium. Then, there's the national anthem, the cheer for the opposing team and the cheer for Navy. After that, the upperclass mids leave the field and the Plebes line up for the entry of the football team and the flyover. The game starts a few minutes after the flyover when the Plebes get into the stands.

Personally, and probably because I marched in a number of times myself and have seen dozens of parades, I am always at my seat for the march-on, and don't bother with watching it from the road. If it's new to you, then you can certainly watch it from the street, but the crowd is pouring in to the stadium at that point, so you might miss the cheer and the flyover if you wait too long to go into the stadium. Delaware is pretty much sold out, so there will be a lot of people there that weekend.

(1) ARRIVE EARLY!!! This cannot be overemphasized. 2 hours early is not too early to plan to arrive in Annapolis. If you don't have a season parking pass, you must park outside of the stadium and take a shuttle/walk to the stadium. There aren't that many roads leading toward the stadium and they are crowded. Come early, so you are not disappointed/stuck in traffic.

(2) Be in the stands by 12:15. You can enjoy the warmups, get a sense of the stadium, etc. And grab some food. There is no alcohol served inside the stadium, although people of legal age may consume it at tailgaters.

(3) Brigade March-on is at 12:35. If you've never seen it before, I strongly suggest you watch from the stands. Agree with person above who said that, if you try to watch them march over from the street and try to get to the stands in time for the march-on, you probably won't make it. You have to walk, they're marching -- it will be a race that you won't win. There is a flyover (weather permitting) right before kickoff.

(4) If you are on the Navy (Blue) side, DRESS WARMLY. You are on the shady side of the stadium and, this time of year, the sun goes behind the stadium early and it gets cold, especially if there is wind. If you're on the Gold side or in the end zones, you'll be in the sun all day or much of the day. Bring sunglasses and wear sunscreen if it's sunny. Always bring at least a light jacket -- Annapolis tends to be windier and a bit chillier than DC or the suburbs.

(5) You may not bring drinks and food into the stadium; they obviously have food for purchase. It may sound obvious, but don't bring weapons or things that look like a weapon. They "wand" people and check bags.

You'll find the fans wonderful, the atmosphere family-friendly, and the environment tremendous fun.

No rain for tomorrow's game. Sunny, breezy and in the low to mid 70's!

If you want to do some star-gazing, keep an eye out for "The Admiral" David Robinson(USNA 87). I ran into he and his two boys in the Mid Store parking lot this afternoon. What a wonderful man, so gracious and friendly. My son had him autograph his khaki cover! Meeting David Robinson and shaking his hand certainly made my Firstie's weekend.

^^^^ thanks for the weather update!
Has been raining cats and dogs up in the NE today.....
nothing like flooding roads to make Friday rush hour fun!!!

Will forget the raingear and pack some shades instead!
