NC Governor's School

Hey guys!
North Carolina Governor's School?

Just wondering if anyone has done this before, is applying, or has applied in the past?
I'm working on the essays right now... the app is due tomorrow :/ slight procrastination ha

I was thinking about applying but there’s a $500 tuition fee this year.

I have friends who have gone. They loved it.

Ya i heard about the fee; it sucks considering it’s always been a free opportunity. My chances of getting in are slim, but the teacher who nominated me is really pushing it so I’m going for it

I am thinking about doing it, but I am not entirely convinced. According to the info session, the program sounded horrible and not fun. Plus, do you guys know how hot it is in Winston-Salem and Raleigh in the summer? It’s BRUTAL heat, and no A/C would not make that fun. The class descriptions are vague, and there’s a class about discussing emotions. I guess that’s to make sure that everybody is happy and not psycho. The fee is not too bad (relative to some other programs), but I have to pay $200 just to take the aptitude test, and I still may not get in of course. So, I have to pay 200 bucks just to apply, and that’s kind of steep.

I might apply to Natural Sciences, but I am thinking of not applying now.

Good luck to everybody applying :)

The whole thing is highly recommended at my school. Counselors run it and administer the aptitude test. Something like 40 kids were nominated/self nominated and took the aptitude test, but the 92 percentile requirement messed up a lot of kids, so now there’s only a few of us continuing the application. 200 bucks to apply seems intense! I didn’t run into that hmm

Natural Sciences sounds cool; I’m more of an English/Social Science person myself ha

Well good luck!

Thanks Emililly415! Good luck to you and everybody else as well!

Well, I’m at a private school, so I have to pay $200 for that aptitude test. Grrr, I have no clue what to do.

We hold it in high regard as well, but for some reason it just feels fake to me. Oh well, I may still apply I guess.

Look at Summer Ventures too - I did it and it was a lot of fun

I think the two are similar so if you feel one is “fake” the other probably will seem so as well…many kids end up doing both over two summers

Well, that’s the thing i am mulling over. Like the Brown camps were rewarding because the freedom they allowed granted me the opportunites to actually be a “college” student, and allowd me to research an engineering project that I am still working on. I’ll check it ot though, thanks Secret Asian Man! :)

Hey guys I know its a dead post, but does anybody know a relative acceptance rate or how competitive getting into:

  1. Math
  2. Social Science
  3. Natural Science
    is?

I’m asian so I don’t think I have a good chance at math, but I am SO good at it.

Social Science I am pretty good at because I do debate on current events.

What do they test for Social Science (aptitude test)?

Thank you.

@Above:
I don’t think it’s that selective at all tbh.
Like, they have quotas for every county in North Carolina.
So, in my county, which is pretty small, we have about 6 students who go to the governor school a year, and basically if you want to go, apply, and more than likely you’ll get in.
At other schools though, you have to be chosen by the principals, i think, so it really depends.

What would be the rate for Mecklenburg County? (LARGE)

My sister is having issues with this aptitude testing. Where did you go to get tested?

I went to GSE in 2010. Best experience of my life. You should totally go if you get the chance.

Where did you go to get tested? It’s really important that we find out quickly!

How long is the aptitude test?
