it is up to the distric’s administrator to give a kid access. We ran across that problem in one school but when we switched to another school they gave my kids access, though I think some of those rules relaxed due to schools going virtual.
My son is from PA still waiting to see if any aid we get. We have visited twice and love the campus but alittle pricey if he doesnt get anything. Also applied to Ohio U and did get merit there
Did you apply to Pitt? Penn State? Both in state for you and no harder to get into
As you’ve probably seen, NC State defers a good deal of EA apps and many are accepted later, so don’t lose hope. It’s not like the UNC-CH waiting list.
As far as safety schools, we had heard a lot of tough experiences last year and thus applied to too many safeties this go 'round. A lot of smaller private schools with admission rates over 60% are are giving out lots of cash to get the best remaining candidates.
Great advice! Thank you!!
Penn State for us is like attending high school, Everybody goes there and is not as good as everyone thinks… My daughter went to WVU and it was cheaper for her to go there than in state. My son applied there too but the chem Eng dept. had alot of problems and going through transtions. My daughter did not recommend it.
Can you elaborate on the issues with the Chem Eng program at PSU? Daughter is deciding between NC State, PSU and UNC chapel Hill. Feel free to DM.
I assume you’re in NC given your name? Not to sound silly but why would you not go to NC State or UNC? Unless you got $25k/year merit from PSU the price is right at UNC or State…
Do students typically go to UNC over NC State for engineering? I didn’t think UNC was known for engineering.
No, students go to NC state for engineering over UNC unless maybe biomedical engineering (but I’m not sure UNC even has that).
UNC has Biomedical Engineering, but no other engineering major right now to the best of my recollection. There is an Applied Sciences in Engineering minor and there will be a major sometime soon.
Great Info. As a parent of a future Aerospace Engineering college student, I wonder what engineering colleges others have applied to?
NC State, Purdue, GaTech etc
Purdue, Penn State, UMD, NC State, Ohio State, Rutgers, VA Tech, Illinois
Virginia Tech, NC State, University of Miami, Clemson, University of Colorado @Boulder and Tulane University.
Can you please elaborate on last year’s experience?
I agree that a lot of kids that apply to State do not go there. The ones that do are engineering students that are in-state and on a budget and I am told that the list moves more for the most competitive engineering majors like CS, EE, Aerospace and Mechanical. Feel free to DM.
GaTech, VT, UGA, UF, UCF, Vandy, Rice for a kid wanting to stay southern-- he said no to Purdue, Maryland and anywhere in the NE. So for him GaTech and NC State top the list-- GaTech OOS is about 11% acceptance so NC State is a frontrunner
We should be hearing back for honors college decision today, right?
We are still wait for Merit info too. Without it may be no go.
