Hello all,
Does anyone know when will they send Honors College invitation? Or it was already sent?
Thanks.
Hello all,
Does anyone know when will they send Honors College invitation? Or it was already sent?
Thanks.
It looks like the invitations either come with your admittance notification if you meet the criteria, or you can self-nominate after being admitted. Applications for the honors college have a deadline in March, but you can also apply in your second year.
They said two weeks after your acceptance notification
Thanks for the info
They said two weeks but has anyone rec’d them separately yet? Or shall we conclude it would have come with the admissions letter?
It’s been over two weeks since decisions went out. Has anyone received an invitation to Honors yet?
DS received an invite to apply to the Scholars program.
@Essel Was it email or snail mail? When did she get her invite?
On FB Live, they just said nothing has gone out and that there wasn’t a separate application. You haven’t missed anything.
@mommahawk -He was invited to apply to the Thomas Jefferson Scholars Program via email. From what I understand, if he makes it (they only accept between 10 and 15 students each year), he will receive two degrees from NC State- A BA from the College of Arts and a BS from the College of Life Sciences. This is not the same as the Scholars or Honors program that is open to all NCSU students. This is only to students who have been accepted into one of these two colleges there.
Thanks for the info @chb088
THanks for the info @Essel and congratulations to your son.
My OOS son received an email Thursday inviting him to apply to the Benjamin Franklin Scholars program then on Friday received an email inviting him to apply to University Honors or University Scholars.
@mommahawk - Same with mine! My other son received the Ben Franklin invite, and both the boys received the invite to apply to the UHP and USP.
@Essel Congrats to your sons! Keeping my fingers crossed that he receives some merit scholarship. I think it will come down to whether out of state schools offer him something that will drive down the cost of going out of state .
@mommahawk Congratulations, and Good Luck to your son, as well! I hope they do
Major changes just announced to NC State’s Honors College: there are new annual fees, the pre-registration benefit was eliminated, and there is now different GPA requirements for student’s completing their freshman year who wish to apply to the Honors College: 3.75 for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Sciences and a 3.5 for College of Design, College of Ed, College of Humanities & Social Sciences, College of Natural Resources, College of Textiles, First Year College and Poole College of Management.
Disappointingly, current Honors College students were not included in the process of making these changes.
@Mariposa2 - I guess it makes sense-the bar for general admission goes up every year, it’s only natural that that for the USP ad UHP does, too! I figured the annual fees were always part of the deal, my other son who’s headed to UNC Chapel Hill is required to pay, as well, for Honors Carolina. I figured it was for the seminars and whatever. I keep hearing that these programs are not a big deal, and I guess ten years after you graduate, no one is going to ask if you were in the Honors programs or something. It’s about your peers when you’re in college I guess, the ones that’ll challenge you, encourage you, motivate you…
I would be interested to know what the program fees are, for future reference for my D22 (aspiring vet). My understanding is that the program is a program, not a bona fide Honor’s College. My oldests goes to UofSC and is in their Honor’s College and the fee is $575ish per semester. But, the hefty fee comes with tons of benefits, so it seems worth it.
