NC State Transfers Falll 2019

Here it says the transfer notification date is April 15: https://admissions.ncsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2017/09/transferinstert-FINAL.pdf

Does that mean all of us will hear on the 15th? Or will we get decisions BY the 15th so they can send them earlier?

Hi! I was hoping someone could potentially chance me as best they could, so I can at least have somewhat of an idea of whether I should get my hopes up or not about transferring. Here are my stats:

Year: Freshman
School: East Carolina University
Credits: I had 15 completed credits when I applied, and I will have 31 by the end of this semester. I’ve made sure all my courses will transfer over correctly and will count towards my major!
Major: Elementary Education
Courses:
First Semester: English 1000 (writing course), Anthropology 1000, English 1100 (reading course), Weather and Climate, Psych 1000
Second Semester: College Algebra, Biology Lecture, Biology Lab, Developmental Psych, Intro to Sociology, American History
GPA: 3.86 first semester

HIGH SCHOOL STATS:
GPA: I’m not sure exactly what my unweighted GPA was, but it was definitely above a 3.5 (I found an old letter of recognition from senior year saying I had above a 3.5 unweighted GPA). I’d say somewhere between a 3.5 and a 3.8.

Any help or advice would be lovely! Thanks

Hi, I’m a freshman at Appalachian University and just finished my first semester. After my 2nd semester is done I aim to transfer to NCSU into sophomore year. (Fall 2019) Here are my details.

I applied already in High School, but got deferred, then waitlisted. This was when I applied as an engineering major (not anymore)

Demographics: Hispanic, male student. First generation to be born here but not first to go to college.

GPA: 3.54 (After one semester, should go higher or stay the same after 2nd semester.)

Major: Currently undecided, but will choose a major soon, however my major will not be an engineering major so it won’t be that hard. My major I choose to apply will most likely be a business major, social science major, or English major

SAT: 1270

College ECS: In film and writing club, (so I write), play multiple instruments (Was in a band in High School, and also write songs)

Transferable Credits: All of my first 15 credits from my first semester will transfer, and all the upcoming ones will transfer as well.

High School GPA: 4.3 /5 point scale

I think that’s all I need to mention, ask me if there is anything else I should put. I am curious how good my chances are.

Some things I’ve heard that is worth noting.

  • The average GPA for a transfer student is 3.54
  • The highest of any minority accepted of transfer students are Hispanics surprisingly.
  • For a majority of majors, the recommended GPA is 3.0, with engineering having much higher recommended GPA (I am not one though) so I think my GPA is competitive.

Hope this is good

Ngl hoping my hispanic self helps alot in their decision, plus my good grades (3 A’s, 2 b’s

Please offer your thoughts!

@toonicenate I think you could be good, but you are Asian so they might go harsher, plus your requirements are 2nd semester which technically doesn’t count. Your hours are good though, I’ll bet you get in. Good luck!

@grindstudyeat Hi, fellow Hispanic here. I think you have great grades and due to your race, you’re guaranteed to get in IMO. Want to look at mine?

Yes please!

Please do so! @grindstudyeat

Might as well ask a chance me for an old boy here:

Non-traditional transfer at NC CC, 3.91 GPA and will have 64 credits at the end of this semester. First gen, 39 years old. I have a family and full time job so no ECs to speak of (besides those). Applied for international studies.

@Mcunn226 I think you have a great shot! High GPA and tons of credits, you’ve got this.

I’m anxiously waiting for the admission decision now, can anybody see my chance?

Background: 29 yrs international, female, Asian (non-traditional transfer)
Applied Major: Computer Science

GPA: 4.0 from NC community college
2.6 from medical school in China (it’s an equivalent to a BS in the US, I graduated there 6 years ago)
Transferrable Credits: 73 (I took several extra courses because different schools I applied have different requirements)
*I will not use my credits from China!

SAT: 1450 (I know it’s unnecessary for my case but I took it for some private schools so I still sent it to NCSU)
SAT Math Subject: 780; SAT Physics: 760

EC: In the US: full-time employee of the public school (special education assistant) in VA; meantime some restaurant part-time job; meantime some part-time tutoring job (I’m in my gap year and working 60 hours/ week now, it shows up in my resume); SGA; Museum volunteer
In China(again, that was about 6-10 yrs ago): SGA; full-time employee as health specialist; student research assistant; lab assistant; publication (3rd co-author); student leader reward; Honor graduate student leader; college athlete(state competition 2nd place for martial arts); school soccer club; internship.

  • I think my biggest disadvantage would be the fact that I've already earned a bachelor's degree in China, I explained the reason I want/need to switch to computer science in my personal statement. But I don't know how much attention the admission will give to essaies.

I’m getting so anxious and just want to know their decision!! i wish we could find out sooner. I’m going to contact financial aid tomorrow and see what kind of scholarships they offer out of state students

How exactly does transfer work? I mean if you are in freshman second semester you won’t have grades until after the April 15th decisions. I know you need 30 hours to transfer and the admissions advisor told us AP credits do not apply to the 30 credits needed.

@besitl to my understanding, you have to have 30 credit hours by the time you would enroll at NC State. So as a freshman second semester, you just have to send in your final grades at the end of your semester and have 30 done by then.

According to last year’s NCSU transfer thread most kids found out the Friday before the 15th.

Good luck everyone!!

Do you need to send in a list of courses in progress for the spring? I have just now realized that my community college only listed classes that are completed on the transcript. Therefore, my courses in progress were not listed on the transcript.

I was asked to submit a schedule at the beginning of the semester. It didn’t need to be anything official.

Ok thanks. So they emailed you and asked for a schedule?

Hey! Im a freshmen international business major and french minor currently attending App State. Could anyone give me a little insight on how my stats compare- I am so nervous.

By the end of this semester, I will have 36 credits completed and will be taking 9 credit hours over the summer. I currently have a 3.9 gpa and should stay around this gpa at the end of this semester. I have lots of extracurriculars in high school and awards and honors such as possible publication at my current university from a paper I wrote, musical awards, and academic honors like chancellor list.

In high school, I was very involved, graduated with a gpa of a 4.5 and received many honors for band and academics. I also took 4 ap courses. My sat scores were lower than nc states average, so that is what I am worried about.

I hope everyone is able to transfer and have a fresh new start!

@hbh2017 , yes. Here’s what they asked for:

“We are in need of an updated class schedule for your spring 2019 classes.

Please e-mail me a copy of your current class schedule as soon possible . The class schedule should include the dept , class number, name of the class and possible credits to be earned per class . Pleas have the name of the school and your name visible on the schedule.

We cannot continue processing your application until I received that schedule.”
