My son has been accepted to both NC State and UNC Chapel Hill. He's torn. He plans to major in Physics or Biology, with hopes to pursue his Masters and Ph.D. in research.

Any advice?

Which school does he like the “feel” of the best? Everyone on this forum will say NCSU all the way and those on the UNC forum will say the same for Chapel Hill. Both schools will serve him well in either of those majors. It just really comes down to the kind of atmosphere he prefers. They are pretty different in that regard. Most people either really love UNC or they really don’t like it at all.

Thank you for taking your time to share an opinion.

He’s at UNC CH today, participating in “Shadow a Student”. Then, a week later, he’ll be visiting NC State and UNC CH, as part of their ‘official’ tour the school.

Thank goodness we have a few weeks to make it official.

I would also recommend calling the PAMS and the Life Sciences departments at NCSU and ask if he can meet with someone from Physics and Biology at some point before or after your tour to discuss their departments and opportunities. We did this when my dd was deciding between 3 different schools and it really helped her decision. (I assume he got the opportunity to do this at UNC today. If not, he should make arrangements.)

Good luck with the decision! He really can’t go wrong with either school.

I was accepted to both and chose NCSU, as they offered me the Park. But, as it turns out, they was just a very nice cherry on top of the pie, as I fell in love with it when I visited. In my opinion, the faculty there (as well as the caliber of research) sell the school.

Many congrats on winning the Park scholarship Twixxin. What an honor/great opportunity!
