NCSSM Class of 2017 appplicants

Hi guys, I’m new to this forum, but i want to be apart. I applied also!! I’m taking the SAT saturday, I feel preety confident about my essays as well

Hey welcome to the forum! Where are you applying from (district or high school)? I’m from Laney high school in district 7. How’s your application in your opinion? Do you need any tips for the upcoming SAT? If you have any questions I will do my best to help! :smiley:

You seem like a pretty cool person! I hope I can get to know you when we BOTH GET INTO NCSSM!

Thank you :blush: , and right back at you! It will be good to see you there! We will go, see, and conquer! :smiley:

Not sure what district, but my friend told me it’s one of the harder ones. I am in the Charlotte mecklenburg region.

Freshman year:
Honors Earth/Environmental: 95
Honors English I- 93
Honors World History: 95
French 2: 90
AP Calculus AB: 95
AP Calculus BC: 92
Health and PE: 95
Honors Intro to engineering: 95
GPA: 4.875, class rank 1
I didn’t feel like searching for last years grade so all the 95s are mid to high A’s that I don’t remember the grade to.

Current year:
AP Statistics: 92
Honors English 2: 91
AP Psychology: 89
Honors Biology: 97
Computer programming: 93
Honors Civics and economics 93
Honors French 3: 91
Next semester: Honors Principles of Engineering

SAT: 2150
800 math, 710 writing, 640 reading. I am 100+ points higher than school average in writing and math, but not reading. Overall is 420 above school average.

Extra-curriculars:
Ping pong club, Mu alpha theta, JV soccer, Chess club.
I did math counts in middle school as well.

So my academics isn’t very good, but my strong suit is math, so hopefully they take that in account.

I have some relations with ncssm due to them hosting math competitions and practices.
I placed first in the mathcounts state competition held at ncssm in 7th grade and 5th in the high school state comprehensive competition hosted by ncssm in 8th grade. I also am on the arml A1 coached by ncssm staff team so I am familiar with a few of the math teachers there.

Right now my main concern is all those Bs bringing my application down. Does anyone know if NCSSM takes into the account of the 7 point vs 10 point scale in transcript evaluation?

Thanks and Good luck to everyone applying! :smile:

@iLackCreativity‌

HEY! I know you! I think I do. Did you do the russian math competition during one of the club meetings?If you know me, you can probably tell by the username.

Small world! Oh wait, never mind, sometimes i forget we are the only ones who care :joy: yay for NCSSM

Oh dear, looks like my shortcomings as a student has been leaked out to people I know personally :persevere:
Oh well. And yes, That means I do know you, but I don’t recall anything based on your username. Feel free to pm me your name :slight_smile:
My scores and grades shall remain only between us! (Spare me from embarrassment please )
And the other people in this online community of course.

@iLackCreativity‌
Welcome to the forum! Shortcomings?! Your math transcript makes me feel embarrassed, and your involvement with NCSSM before this makes you even more likely to get in. However, your info will of course remain between us!

Does anyone know if the SAT is in the new format on the 24th since it’s 2015?

@Kanra173‌
Thanks! I really appreciate the encouragement. My main concern is that I’m not well rounded enough with math being my only strong suit. Anyways, good luck on your application! :slight_smile:

Here is what I found about the SAT
https://www.collegeboard.org/delivering-opportunity/sat/faqs
Stated on FAQ:
"When will the redesigned SAT be given for the first time?

The first administration of the redesigned SAT will be in spring 2016."

"How does the redesign of the SAT affect the high school graduating class of 2015?

The high school graduating class of 2015 will take the current SAT. These students should continue to visit the SAT website to register for the test and to get and send their scores. And we have good news: The College Board is partnering with Khan Academy to expand and deepen the free instruction, review, and practice resources available on the SAT website."

@iLackCreativity‌
Thanks a bunch for the answer to my question, my friend really freaked me out about it! :sweat_smile: I wouldn’t worry about your well roundedness. You’ve got a decent amount of social studies and an engineering class looks good on applications since they aren’t offered everywhere. :smile: To be honest, I think everyone will be really relieved when this waiting game is over!

I am so nervous! I’m also from district 9.

I’m worried about the B in calc.

@gleek817‌
Hey welcome to the forum. I wouldn’t worry to much about the B in Calculus topics, Calculus topics is a junior level class and to know that you are taking it and are still doing real well is impressive! If you’re worried about it make sure that you get a good math evaluation from that teacher. Plus you’ve taken a lot of sciences which will help boost you up in the application process. Just make sure if there are any classes you were worried about grade wise then make sure you get good recommendations from those teachers, they’ll want to hear how hard you tried! :smile:

I’m from district 12. I am not sure how competitive it is. I feel like I have a really good shot, but I am not sure…

@kkpanu9‌
Hello! I think district 12 is pretty small, but you will have to compete with the Charlotte crowd so I’m not sure about how competitive it is. I must say though your extra-curriculars are really impressive as well as your SAT score! The founding of a club is going to look really good on your application as it shows good initiative and leadership. I take it you’re not too pleased with your English teacher then! :lol: AP Physics is great because it’s all the STEM fields in one class (I wish that they had it at my school :disappointed: ). I think you have a really good shot!

Hey guys, I’m from CD1. :no_mouth:

When you submit your teacher’s info. for evaluations, does your browser just refresh the page?

@BioMed159‌
Hello, when you put in the teachers information in if you don’t put it in all at once and then you leave the page then the information disappears as if the page has refreshed. What I recommend is you just put all the information in at once then submit them all or you hit submit on one evaluation section at a time. It will say that you haven’t done the other sections but it should save your information for that one teacher and it shouldn’t disappear when you leave the page. Hope this helps! :smile:

@Kanra173‌
Thanks! :smiley:
