<p>What is this award about? Is it a big deal/honor?</p>
<p>Both my S and D were selected by their schools to write for the NCTE award, and their teachers were thrilled when they won the awards. They received cards to attach to their applications for college which referred colleges to a booklet containing their names. Whether or not it made (for D) or will make (for S) any difference to colleges in and of itself, I can only guess. However, the students who win are offered a chance to participate in a number of other writing contests which can result in monetary awards. Is your child going to participate in the NCTE process?</p>
