Can you explain what happens during "transfer-O"? How long is this orientation type thing?

Transfer O is a few days and just a chance to get your courses scheduled, meet some friends, and do some socializing. It isn't bad or too long as I remember.

I got in today! I am so excited! Good luck to everyone!

FREAKING AYE!!!!! nothing in the mail yet, its driving me nuts, because I dont get home til 7 pm on monday to check my mail, and even then it might not be in yet :(

This was the hardest time for me last year. Well, about as hard as being deferred early, waitlisted regular and then ND not taking anyone off the waitlist in '06. The letters just seemed to slowly come out last year. It is miserable I know.

As for Transfer O, if any of you are like me, it was tough not getting in the first time around. I will admit that I had some very hard feelings for ND. I think transfer O helps you feel like you belong at ND. There is a wonderful mass in the basilica and a luncheon. Fr. Jenkins speaks at the luncheon and reminds everyone he was a transfer too. It helped put things in perspective and helped me get beyond it all.

At the college orientation they also spoke to us about how transfers typically did not do as well as other students. I am not sure if this was the "scare tactic" but most of the people I know who transferred in did just fine, with many of us making the Deans list first semester. Do not panic. You will be fine.

You will meet with your advisors and select courses. This did not go well for me as most classes were closed out. It all worked out in the end but it was stressful. If you know anyone on campus that can help you with the online registration system and how to look for open classes, I would ask them to help you. It will make it much easier.

The one thing I did not care for was the way we were told that those that were transferring in would become a class unto itself. That these people would be our friends. While I agree that at first you will cling to your roommate (they did try to put transfers in with transfers and despite what we were told, they were able to get many of us into dorms last year) I think it is important to meet other people other than transfer students. Some of my good friends are transfers but I have many more who are not.

August will be here before you know it. Go Irish!

My sister received her acceptance letter to Arts & Letters yesterday! She went to U of M this past year. Good Luck to everyone else!

Irishfan do you know any of her stats?

I know her G.P.A. was a 3.92 at Michigan this past year. She was waitlisted last year. Our mom went to ND. She began a middle school tennis team (large service project) All state tennis honors too. Also, she was valedictorian of the high school with 4.0 taking all honors/ AP classes. etc.

She received it on June 2nd but it was postmarked May 29th.

Good luck! We all wish you the best!

Got my acceptance letter today! Congratulations to all those who have been accepted and good luck to the rest of you who are still waiting, I'm so excited!

ATTA BOY! to everyone else, good luck

congrats to everyone who has gotten in!

Just got my acceptance letter today! A lot of stress just fell off my shoulders.

I know I don't post much, but thanks to the people who have provided insightful information and those who made this process at the very least a much more tolerable one.

Go Irish!

Hey everyone;
I'm on your Fall Transfer Orientation Committee so if anyone has any questions whatsoever, I'd be more than happy to answer them.
-Jason

Jason,

So do you know when most of the decisions are coming out? I live in California so could that take a little bit longer?

Thanks

Isaac,

I can't say that I know the exact inner workings of the admissions process but I have been told on several occassions, and from looking at my list of the first 70 admits, it seems that the decision timeline is affected both by college and by merit.

The first seven or so admits, whose decisions were made during the second week of May, on my list are either from the College of Engineering or the College of Science. The remaining admits are almost entirely from the College of Arts and Letters with my latter most admit being made during the 3rd of June.

Furthermore, it is my understanding that each College has a list based on merit (credit compatibility, GPA, essays, etc.). Typically the top and bottom 20% recieve their acceptances and rejections respectively in the first batch of mailing, the next 20% in both categories then recieve their decisions in the second batch of mails, and the remaining middle group receive their decisions near the end of the month of June.

Hope this helps.

-Jason

PS: I do not currently have an Isaac from CA in my admit list but this is just the first batch, if you would like I could PM you should I recieve the next batch anytime soon.

Jason! thank god you explained that I was getting worried lol. Although logically I did suspect this was the way they were doing it in order to pick precisely the transfer class. Its actually a great thing to have such an insider help the admits months before they actually transfer to make the transition easier, so I know all the transfer are thankful for your help.

I also wanted to know if you can PM me too when the next batch comes out! Thanks in advance

How long after you have sent your confirmation card/fee can you expect to get your ND e-mail (to start on campus housing) in the mail?

CCG: No problem, having been at the University for just a semester, and having been rejected twice already by the University, I have gotten to know the admissions committee and the admissions process very well. I know how nerve wracking the wait can be so anything I can do to help would be my pleasure.

Treytre: Within a few days and no later than a week. If it takes longer than that, give either OIT or Susan a call.

Jason,
Congrats on working so hard to attend Notre Dame. How has the transition into the school gone for you? Any hints for the incoming transfers?

Sent in confirmation card/fee last week so am giving them a call if packet is not in the mail today! Thanks for the information.

The best advice I have for incoming transfers is put yourself out there and go to all the social events and meet the other transfers. When I transferred I was off-campus but I met many friends through transfer orientation or by getting to know their friends. Just force yourself to be out there and go to the social events and meeting people and transition shouldn't be that bad.

Also, there will be road bumps (housing, getting registered) but remember that you are at ND, this is what you have worked for, and it does get better...it just takes time.
