Nearest Skiing

Hi I am considering attending W&M next year but I love to ski. I don't care much about the vertical or size of the mountain, but what is the nearest ski resort and how far is it?

Shouldn't really be picking my school based on this but I can't help myself!

It’s Virginia. Just throwin’ that out there.

Nearest resorts are prolly Winterplace and Snowshoe. They’re both in WV and I would recommend snowshoe over wp although it’s farther away.

i think liberty and whitetail may be a little closer, but still about four hours and they’re both pretty small mountains. there really isnt much close to william and mary, which bothers me too. that’s why i only applied to two southern schools, i’d rather go north so i can ski.
but hey, winter break’s pretty long, so assuming you live near a ski resort, you’ll still be able to do a fair amount

Wintergreen is in Virginia! It’s about 3 hours west from Williamsburg.

Wintergreen and Massenutten are both about three hours away, with Wintergreen being a little closer.

Neither will ever be confused with Alta or June Mountain, but you take what you can get…

If it isn’t too big a reach you should look at The University of Virginia which is 3 hours closer to skiing.

It is 2 hours from UVA to W&M, and if you are competitive for W&M admissions you will be competitive at UVA also.

^ maybe even more so – since W&M is smaller. I know of people who have been accepted to UVA and not W&M, in past years.
