I'm a junior in high school in VA, and I've been thinking about the courses I want to take as a senior. This year I chose regular English instead of AP Lang, and I want to know how greatly my chances of admittance to W&M would be if I did not take AP Lit in 12th grade. Although I'm good in English, it's not my favorite subject. AP classes I plan on or have already taken include:
Grade 10-AP world
Grade 11-AP US history, AP human geo.
Grade 12-AP US & comparative government, AP Bio (or chem), and AP calculus.
I currently have and unweighted GPA of 4.0 and I have taken every honors core class available other than regular English 11.

So should I take AP lit?

If you believe you can be successful in AP Lit we would recommend you take it even though it’s not required for admission. We recommend that students take the most challening courses in which they can be successful (meaning get good grades). Generally speaking, applicants who attend high schools where many APs are offered take 4 or 5 in the senior year so that would bring your AP count to four. And since W&M is a liberal arts university where you will take classes across the curriculum regardless of major and where you will be expected to write well, AP English is a great prep class.

Thank you for the reply. I think I will most likely take AP Lit in order to have a very rigorous schedule.
