Need a book for tomorrows AP lit opended exam

hey i want a book but all the ones that i have read in class and at home are cliqches such as

Crime and Punishment
Jane Eyre
the catcher in the rye
hamlet
Oedipus's rex
Frankenstein

i was thinking of the Lord of the Flies but that isn't universal so whcih one should i pick that is greatly universal and not overused??????

Heart of Darkness?

Maybe, something from Shakespeare.

My list is: Great Gatsby, Brave New World, Beloved, The Awakening, and Macbeth.

Pick one where a lot of stuff happens or there's lots of themes, and study it a lot. I'm doing Prayer for Owen Meany and Jude the Obscure because tons of stuff happens so there's sure to be something that fits the prompt, and Equus because you can use it for almost EVERYTHING.

The two that have been on the exam most often in the past like, 10-20 years (well, not ON it, but recommended) are Invisible Man and Heart of Darkness. I don't recommend reading Invisible Man just tonight, but maybe sparknote it? :)

is animal farm a good choice

No, Animal Farm is a novella and doesn't use many themes. You can use it for a satire essay, but it's very limited.

then guys do u think i should do one of the Shakespeare plays

and is Crime and punishment overused

Shakespeare is a fine choice. Personally, I enjoyed The Merchant of Venice.

Picture of Dorian Gray | Oscar Wilde
The Awakening | Kate Chopin
This Side of Paradise | F. Scott Fitzgerald
A Farewell to Arms | Ernest Hemingway
The Crucible | Arthur Miller
The Catcher in the Rye | J.D. Salinger
The House of Seven Gables | Nathaniel Hawthorne
Ragtime | E. L. Doctorow

I intend on using Atlas Shrugged if I'm in dire need of a book. Honestly, if The Bonesetter's Daughter makes the list of "literature" then I don't see why Atlas Shrugged doesn't. I also don't know why The Glass Menagerie is on the list...since nothing happens.

Anyway, I like this website: http://homepage.mac.com/mseffie/AP/APtitles.html

Glass Menagerie was for a prompt with character torn in two directions; I don't know what others it's on, but Tom fits that perfectly.

i don't think picking a popular book will work against you...unless you write a completely cliched essay
just choose two or three books you enjoy and feel comfortable with thematically. that way, when the prompt comes, you will be able to automatically think about the books themes...and maybe have a little fun with the open endedness of the question :)

a nice quirky book that nobody has mentioned on either thread is Grendel... really a solid book

how bout something you are familiar with/enjoy reading? fahrenheit 451 maybe? i dont think thats been mentioned
