whats a good one thats useful for the AP literature test?
Thanks

Great Gatsby
An awesome books.

heart of darkness.

my god.

Crime and Punshment :)

A portrait of the artist as a young man = )

argh. i hate joyce

i wouldn't want to read crime and punishment 4 times...no offense, it is a good book. but if i had to read it 4ish times I'd pick somethign short.

crime and punishment? that monstrosity? we just finished it up (last set of questions due tomorrow), but yeah, if you had to read it four times, i'd pick another novel....

catcher in the rye, the stranger, dante's inferno, animal farm, and ah....that's all i can think of right now...maybe dracula and frankenstein as well.

its not that big.

how is animal farm? i bought that for my own entertainment last wk...haven't had a chance to read it yet.

we read animal farm in eighth grade.

try wuthering heights or the invisible man. great books and they frequently show up on the AP test

Here's what I think about some AP LIT novels:

I hate Heart of Darkness. Animal Farm is boring and sort of pointless (in my opinion). Crime and Punishment is kind of interesting but very long. I started reading Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and never finished it (it's THAT bad). Wuthering Heights is OK but also pretty long. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to read A Catcher in the Rye or the Great Gatsby but from what I've heard they're pretty good. Slaughterhouse Five is really interesting and most importantly VERY SHORT but I don't know how often it appears on the AP test. Another short book: The Old Man and the Sea; again I don't know how much good it'll do you on the AP test. Jane Eyre took me forever to read for some reason so I wouldn't recommend it.

I second Invisible Man, it is an excellent book and can be analyzed from many angles

^^^Also, as far as Heart of Darkness goes, it can also be analyzed in an excellent way, but is more of a bore and may not be enjoyable 4 times over. And Catcher In The Rye, a great read(one of my favorites), but I don't think it is the best to analyze.

heart of darkness only gets better every time you read it. its orgasmotastic how conrad writes. now if these books are targeted for the ap lit exam i would suggest sl5, bluest eye, invisible man, and heart of darkness, simply because they are known to have shown up and are fun quick reads (except inv man but that one is good anyways). and with slaughter house, although it rarely shows up, it is such a quirky book that when it DOES show up, the question generally fits with the book very well.

AHH don't read catcher in the rye that book sucks.

their eyes were watching god...a lot of analysis can be done

A great book to read is Beloved.

Death of a Salesman

Hamlet by Shakespeare.

Hard times
