Need advice for AP Exams…Plus a couple of questions about a few AP Exams.

AP Exam fees are due next week at my school, and I'm not confident about taking the exams for which classes I'm taking. Currently I'm in AP Language, AP Psychology, and AP U.S. Government. I feel like I'm somewhat prepared for Psych. and Govt. and I'll be able to self study some material that I haven't learned or need to brush up on, but for I feel as if my AP Lang teacher hasn't prepared us enough for the AP Lang test. For those of you who have taken the exam, how have you felt / performed on the exam? My AP Lang teacher has prepared us for the essay portion, but nothing whatsoever for the Multiple Choice section of the exam. Should I take Lang along with U.S. Govt and Psych, or should I only take govt. and psych.? What books should I use to prepare for the exams?

Please…anyone? This is kind of urgent.

if you fundamentally are good at english, or enjoy reading, then i don’t see why taking lang would be that big of an issue. I was in this position last year, where my class decided to take the AP lit test about halfway through the year (it was an IB class) and we only got around to taking practice questions in like mid-april. But because I’m pretty good at actually reading through passages and deducing what the author is trying to say, probably the main skill in both lit and lang, i got a 5. That and knowing a few rhetorical devices or writing tools, like anaphora and polysyndeton, should carry you through the MC section

as for review books, PR was fine for Gov (Self-studied for a week or two, got a 5, but i’m also a politics junky lol). Psych is easily passable if you are confident with the vocabulary, so our teacher always recommends 5 steps. that and online flash cards should get you a passing score. Lang i guess i got a Princeton review

also, look for released online previous AP tests to get a feel for how you might tackle the questions. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t too well or understand the questions before studying. as with any standardized test, you just need to do practice questions to master the skills

AP Psych is one of the easiest tests to self study, especially if you already have some bio knowledge. I used a Princeton Review book to study for the psych exam and managed to cram all of the material in 2 weeks and I got a 5. So it’s definitely doable for that exam. Lang should be easy if you’re good with reading passages and answering multiple choice exams and writing essays. What my school does is give us a section of past AP exams as a practice for the MC portion and uses old essay prompts for in class essays as practice as well. US Gov I would say is doable to self study because it’s almost all facts so you just need to find time to memorize all of it.

kidfromthebeach has a good suggestion with finding released AP exams. Those are gonna be the best way to gauge the difficulty of the actual exam for you.

Oh wow. Thank you guys. I’m good at writing essays for ap Lang, but deducing choices on MC for AP Language is a bit difficult for me. Between two choices, I get stuck sometimes. I refer back to the passage, but I sometimes find myself running out of time.
