Need advice for my plan for UT austin!

Hello all,

I’ve recently been admitted to UT Austin’s liberal schools for undeclared major. I intend to internally transfer to Mccombs and major in Management Information Systems. However, I know that it’s very hard to internally transfer that way, so my back up plan is to major in Economics and minor in computer science (I suppose this is the closest to get to MIS in Liberal Arts). Is there any advice you guys can give to better my chances for internally transferring? Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Also, what kind of jobs would I be able to get with a Economics degree and minor in Comp. Sci. Thanks!

Understand the requirements for internal transfer and get the highest GPA you can.

Jobs you can get with Econ/MIS will depend on the economy when you graduate. Seriously consider the business foundations certificate. Or the health information technology certificate. These will help with your job search.

@gettingschooled Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into those certificates. So i can basically get the same jobs with Eco/comp.sci minor as MIS? Also, they don’t look into extra curriculars when internally transferring do they?

It will depend on the economy when you graduate and whether the employer is flexible in what they will accept. In a tighter job market, they will be more flexible.

You might ask in the transfer thread about the ECs. I don’t know the answer but from what I understand GPA is the most critical factor.
