Need advice on how to raise grades junior year? might be impossible. PLEASE :(

Not sure if I posted this in the write forum, but i think you guys can give good advice on this anyway. So, I'm a pretty decent student when it comes to grades. I have a 3.4 UW and a 4.0
The thing is, is it possible to raise this to a 3.9 UW and around a 4.8 W by the end of junior year? I need to step it up to this.

In junior year I am taking 4 honors classes and 5 AP. i'm going to work really hard. how hard do you think it will be to raise it to a 3.9/4.8? What grades will I have to get, if possible?

THANK YOU! This would really help.

Math wasn’t my strong suit, but I don’t think it’s possible to raise a 3.4 to a 3.9 in one year. Rough calc, if you got a 4.0 junior year, that would bring you up to about a 3.6.

Just try to do your best, and set goals that you can see every day. Also don’t forget that no matter what if you give it your all, you won’t have regrets (finished junior year 1 point[as in one more question right on anything the whole semester] from a 4.0 uw)

I won’t break out my calculator (like Annasdad) either. OP: here’s how you figure it out. What’s your max GPA for your Jr classes? Add those to your first two years and then average it out for the three years. There’s your culmulative GPA.

Yup, what they said^^. Probably not possible to bring up a GPA that much in 1 year, but shoot for those A’s and the upward trend will be evident on your transcript.

Yah I think annasdad is right with 3.6 range. It wouldn’t really make sense that you could raise it up to a 3.9 anyways, why should someone who was an A- student for two years all of a sudden have just as good of a GPA after one year of As as another student who has been a consistent A student all 3 years? There’s a little room of improvement for you, but not THAT much.

alright, thanks.

but what if, junior year I am taking 3 classes online and 8 in school? 9th and 10th I only took 8 in school.

*I’m taking 4 online

(3.416) + (4.012) all divided by 28 gives you a 3.66. That’s the maximum you can get by the end of junior year.

ughhhh alright, thanks :/

actually op has 9 classes.
or maybe even more.
if you’re taking more classes than last year, than average may go up even higher accordingly. it’s hard to explain but do it by semesters taken, not by overall gpa by end of year.

thanks! I’m really bugging, I HATE freshman year :frowning: wish colleges didn’t care about it.

they don’t care that much about it. i know people will always tell you they do, probably to feed their own ego because they did well freshmen year, but think of it logically. you’re going to college after senior year; they’re more interested in how well you will perform at their institute. sophomore and junior year counts so much more than how you did 2-3 years ago. don’t stress too much. do well and colleges will appreciate it.

and ^ i just noticed someone did a calculation up there already. so ignore my semester comment :)

Of course, freshmen year does count when it comes to cummulative, but only to schools that see you as numbers, such as state schools, more object schools, etc.

if you live in California at all and are interested in UC’s. they don’t count freshmen year. nor princeton, and a lot of other schools :p

"a lot of other schools " A rather general statement, no? The fact is MANY colleges DO count Freshman year grades. Given, some don’t – but the OP needs to know what to look for realistically rather than just go in with rose-colored lenses.

My counselor said they count freshman year  and I’m going to a state school, probably private though. Not IVY.

I hate to give you such a cheesy answer but I have to say just stupid your butt off

stupid my butt off? what haha?

haha. of course they COUNT freshmen year. but seriously, put yourselves in admissions officers shoes. if you did well - say A’s sophomore and junior year, your freshmen year just looks like you were off having fun, but you were able to get your act together. NUMERICALLY yes, freshmen year counts. to the admissions officer? not much IF you do well soph and junior year

alright thank you!
