My Son admitted to UF-PACE (program allows him to transition to campus after completing 60 credits off-campus via UF online) and also admitted to Honors college/program at Rutgers Business school with some merit scholarship. We are in-state for UF. With high school credits, he can meet the requirement of 60 credits in one year. At Rutgers we will end up paying out of state for one year and hoping to become eligible for in-state tuition (after meeting NJ residency requirement of 12 moths of residency). So looking for the advice on which option would be better to choose.
RU does not have a rep of giving great merit, and I am not sure how the gain residency program works but one year seems quick IMO, are you planning to move to Nj, file your taxes in NJ, get a NJ DL?
You cannot get residency as a student.
However one year of online classes…oof. I’d say no. Especially since I think you can’t get into the business school from PACE.
Is Rutgers affordable?
Its honors college is VERY competitive (and offers excellent perks because it’s hard to keep top NJ students instate).
Was he admitted anywhere else?
Thanks for your reply. Reg. the residency program, when I spoke to RU financial aid staff, she mentioned that the the students residency status will not be dependent on parents status (even If i move to NJ and file taxes) but student themselves become NJ resident after 12 months of stay and get the NJ DL. Looks like they need to submit the residency analysis form after 12 months of stay… under the category ( a student who is DEPENDENT upon an out-of-state parent(s) or guardian(s), but who has resided in NEW JERSEY for
12 or more consecutive months prior to initial enrollment at Rutgers University).
Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, its affordable (as I was under the impression that he can gain the residency at-least after 3rd semester, if that is not true, then I may need to get some loans).
He was admitted to Kelly School of Business (IU) and Florida State (FSU). Wait listed at NYU (Tandon BTM)
Reg. your comment on he can’t get into Business school from PACE, I’m also not sure but I scheduled an appointment next week w/ Counselor at UF to confirm whether he can get business school with Finance from Sophomore year.
