Hey guys,

I looked at some of the guides on this site and they were extremely helpful for preparation for the SATs. I managed to get a 2260, however I am disappointed because I know I can do much better. My score breakdown is as follows:

Reading - 760
Writing - 780, Essay - 10 (BS it was a beautiful essay lol)
Math - 720

I have NEVER had an issue with math. Every practice test I've ever taken, including the official collegeboard ones from that Big Blue Book, I managed to effortlessly get an 800 on the Math section. I also got an 800 on the Math 2 Subject Test.

Now my question is, should I retake it and go for that 2300? I'm confident I can be consistent in Writing and I will focus and make sure i get that 800 in math, however that 760 in reading is going to be an issue to try and maintain.

I'm applying early decision to UPenn, and I will be taking subject tests in June, so my only test date will be in October. Should I bother retaking? Will it make a difference necessarily? Or will they see that I got an 800 on the Subject Test and recognize that I'm taking AP Calculus BC (probably going to get a 5 on the exam)? Maybe I should take the ACT?

My whole family is new to the college process as I am the first one in my family attending. Please suggest what I should do. Thanks :)

You need to get your reading and math score over 1500.

not unless your target school actually requires a higher score AND superscores

Don’t re-take. Your Math Level 2 and AP Calc BC qualify you fine for advanced college quant stuff, and your other numbers really shouldn’t be risked. Nice job.

Despite what the others said, I’ll give you three reasons why retaking it would be beneficial.

1). You could gain 80 points and add those on to a superscore of 2340.

2). You could potentially increase the other sections of your test.

3). If anything retaking the test will only waste 50 bucks and one Saturday morning.

Your score is very high. But, I think that there is a slight discrepancy b/w a 22XX and a 23XX. Having that 2300+ on paper has a mesmerizing nature.

Thanks for the replies guys. Now I want to retake something, but I have AP exams right around the corner and my only possible test dates are in June and October for the SAT’s.

UPenn requires SAT I plus two SAT Subject Tests OR ACT with Writing. I was thinking of taking the ACT instead, and if it is relatively similar to the SAT’s, I am confident I can score in the 35-36 range.

Should I just take the ACT’s instead so I don’t have to worry about any subject tests? Will my other scores go to waste if I submit my ACT scores and they only consider that instead?
Thanks :)

they will consider whichever comes out higher percentile wise, you wont hurt yourself taking the act. however, it is a substantially different test, esp at the high end. i wouldnt go into it cold.
