I kind of a failed my freshmen and sophomore classes and have overall GPA around 2.9. at the same time, I was able to score more than 1550 in SAT soooo… people say that it is an extraordinary case, I probably got the highest score in my country, and I’m not sure what to ask, just really need your feedback guys. Also, when applying to college, what might be that admission officer might ask? (just interested in pros and cons)
You are kind of in my boat. I have a perfect score and 3.5 GPA. Admission officers will probably see that you have potential (your SAT), but question whether you are motivated or not, hence your low GPA. You have a good chance of being accepted to Depaul, but to be sure, I would focus on your essays, teacher recs, and extracurriculars (if you have some). Also, tell the officer what you have learned from having a low gpa and how you won’t make the same mistake or if you have any circumstances (family, notorious deflation), let them know. You are fine for DePaul, but I would discuss this with the admission officer if possible.
How was your Junior year? Which is your country?
I have seen situations where students with an uptrend in GPA who were still very close to the cutoff applied to universities, and in some cases the universities waited for the mid year grades before deciding whether to accept the student. Some universities will do this, and some will not. I am not sure about DePaul.
I would say apply and see what happens. Also, in a situation such as yours you should try to get high grades for your senior year. As one example of why this might end up being important: If you don’t get into anywhere you like and that you can afford, this would allow you to take a gap year and reapply with two strong years of grades (assuming that your Junior year was good). With two strong years of grades plus a very high SAT there should be some very good schools that would be willing to take a risk on you and give you a chance.
I got accepted today with about the same GPA as you and a 27 ACT, you will be fine
i had a low gpa (3.3) but a 1400 sat and got accepted with a presidential scholarship. however, i did take a lot of aps which boosted my weighted gpa to 4.1.
overall, your high sat score may pull your chances up a lot, but try to get good grades this year if it’s not too late.
