(Help) Getting into DePaul: Low GPA/High SAT Score?

Hi,

I was wondering if I could get an opinion on this:

So currently my GPA is a 2.85 and I’m a Junior in my second semester. I got a 1080 on the PSAT. I’ve been studying for a month and will continue to for the next 2 months until the SAT test in April. I’m hoping to get my score up to between 1200-1260. So, if I did get that score, do you think that would compensate for my GPA?

As far as extracurriculars, I’m the head photographer for Newspaper, help out with musicals (crew), and potentially starting a club this year. Also, I know one of the CDM Professors at DePaul through mutual family friends. So, he might get me on a couple of film projects over the summer (This would go on my application.) It may help since I want to major in Film and Television.

I’ve been working really hard this year. I have a tough time with test taking. So my freshman and sophomore year were horrible. I’ve heard that they look at if you’ve improved over the years. I had Mostly Bs and Cs freshman & sophomore year, but so far junior year I have As and Bs.

correction: my gpa right now is actually 2.89. forgot to add: Since I am getting As and Bs this year… my gpa would actually be a 3.0 by the end of junior year. Go off of that when forming an opinion instead of 2.85

Are you coming from a competitive high school? Personally I think if you can get your cumulative GPA above a 3.0, even by a little, and earn the SAT scores you mentioned, it will work out. When we toured the school, they said the avg SAT (not sure if it was old or new test) was 1080-1280. So you’d be on the higher range. If it is your first choice, I would recommend applying early and writing the optional essay. My D was in a similar situation as far as stats and it worked out, but did not receive a lot of money.
