The ranking stated on my report card is 5, but because the form teacher made a mistake and did not add the marks of a subject (which does not weigh much) for my class. If that mark is counted, my ranking would be 3.

I'm now asking the school to print a transcript with grades from all years. I am trying to request that they print my ranking as 3. A counselor says it's better to follow black-and-white on report card, but another says it should be alright.

1) Will colleges penalize me, if the ranking stated on the transcript is different from the one on the report card (the report card isn't going to be submitted though)?
2) Is that cheating, or falsifying documents?
3) How much does the ranking matter? the difference between 5 and 3?
(I know colleges still consider ECs, essay, rec etc, but how much does this weigh?)

Note: I'm not from US. Taking national standardized test soon. But here I'm talking about my school's internal examination

Thanks! I’m just so paranoid right now.
I heard colleges, esp. HYPS are becoming really strict on things, checking if we’re misrepresenting any parts of the application. I’m so confused…

Anyone has any idea regarding that policy? and how it might affect my current situation?

Figure out if going from a rank of 5 to a rank of 3 changes your percent. Ranking in the top 10% of your class is fabulous, but top 1% is REALLY fabulous.

This counselor is essentially saying that, as the school got it wrong in one place, it must perpetuate the error in every place. That makes no sense (and is unfair to you as well).

I would push for the true ranking to show on your transcript, and not worry about it. If the college somehow checked, the way for it to do so would be to call or write your school, and the school’s answer should be that your true rank is 3.

serious? I presume colleges have a way to fact-check internationals as well.

How many people are there in your class?
If going from 3 to 5 doesn’t affect the ranking percentage, then I suppose it’s okay to put 5.
though it’s really unfair for you, maybe you could convince the counselor to change.

am not really sure though,
is class percentage more important than the specific class rank???
