Need advice

i posted this in the parents forum:

My parents don't want me to take AP Bio next yr (my sr, yr). They think i will be overloading myself.....however, I really want to take AP bio...i put myself on a track at my high school so i would be able to!

I am planning on writing a proposal to my parents about why i should...but they seem pretty determined to not let me take the class..

Does anyone have any convincing advice?
?????

thanx

Screw your parents and take the course. It's a great course, you'll learn loads, and it will help for college. Dude, your parents suck!

Bio sucks, but its a nice AP to have on your resume. If you have any interest in pursuing medicine, you should take it.

Why don't your parents want you to take a challenging course?

Your parents are idiots. Why in the name of god would any parent not let his or her child take a challenging class? If you think you can handle it, you have the right to try. It's your life, not theirs. Show your parents this thread and all the people who think they're morons.

I'm sure your parents want you to take all the AP classes that you can but they think you are not going to be able to keep up. What you can tell them is that you will see how it goes in the first few weeks and then you will make a decision, staying or taking another class.

I'm not terribly interested in Biology, but I'm taking it senior year anyway. If you are going to take any sort of Bio class in college it is important to have the basics fresh in your mind.

Take it, my friend who graduated this year is going to be a political science major and we both got 5s. I'm leaning towards engineering.

It is reading intensive though but not any worse than a history class.

"If you are going to take any sort of Bio class in college it is important to have the basics fresh in your mind"

Good point. If you take it now and don't do anymore bio in HS, you're going to forget a lot of it come time for college. It might add up to extra work on your part. But it would be a good challenge for you... Weigh your choices carefully!

Only YOU know what you can handle and if you never try, you'll never know, right? Your parents are really just trying to look out for you -- chronic stress is definitely not healthy... but if you think you can handle it, then go for it. There's always the option of dropping if it does get too much but you can't move into the class in the middle of the year if your parents change their minds.
